Another recent release from Narrow Planet has been the LKM V10C.

photo%2B1-776962.JPG

They were built from about 1957, based on the NS4. LKM were standardising components and modules and the V10C shares items with the standard gauge V10B. The standard locomotives had an air-cooled 6-cylinder diesel engine (6 KVD 14.5 SRL, later 6 VD 14,5 / 12 SRL). The export models for warmer climated had a water-cooled engine (6 KVD 14.5 SRW). Depending on the gauge, the locomotive had an outer (600-762 mm) or inner frame (900-1067 mm). As standard the V10C had only a mechanical brake however a later option was a pneumatic brake, which only worked for the locomotive or as a continuous train brake. With an output of 102 hp, the V10C was designed for both field and industrial railways. In size and design, the locomotive has a certain resemblance to the military diesel the HF130C.

The Kit consists of a 3D printed body shell, 3D printed detail and etched brass grill, exhaust and window surrounds.

It requires and outside framed Graham Farish 08 chassis to be completed - which can be fitted with simple modifications detailed in the instructions. The kit is packaged in a re-usable box with all components required excluding glazing material, 0.4 and 0.3mm brass rod (required for the handrails). To assembly you will need superglue, a 0.3 and 0.4mm drill, a pair of needle nose pliers (to bend the handrails) and a pair of tweezers (to fit the window frames).

The kit price is £50 and is available to order now. For more information, contact orders@narrowplanet.co.uk or visit our website at http://narrowplanet.co.uk/

We're also working on the following engines for release in 2015.

NG4_zps04bf6308.jpg

NGR N Class/SAR NG4 in 009. Requires a Farish 08 outside framed Chassis to complete.

4_zps14f82fe7.jpg

CGR C Type 'Midget' in 009. Requires a Minitrains F&C Chassis to complete.

I'm hoping to get more information on them out as they approach release but if you're interested in them, you can register your interest in either model at orders@narrowplanet.co.uk

Cheers,

Jon

Having finally figured out how to do product customisation there, we've moved over all of our custom etched products to the new Narrow Planet online store, which means you can now order them through a proper shopping cart with secure online payment.

They are just as configurable as they've always been - in fact more so as we've been able to add more scales, so 3.5mm:ft, 5.5mm:ft, 1:32, 1:24 and 7/8":ft scales are all selectable on relevant items*. You can also now choose directly from brass or nickel silver on nameplates and generic number plates.

We have also altered the price banding for nameplates, the costs are now:

Nameplates up to 3mm height - £4.50 per pair unpainted, £5 painted
Nameplates up to 5mm height - £6.00 per pair unpainted, £6.50 painted
Nameplates up to 8mm height - £9.00 per pair unpainted, £10 painted
Nameplates over 8mm height - £13.00 per pair unpainted, £15 painted

Nameplates in the largest category are now also produced on 0.9mm (36 thou) metal for a chunkier finish on larger locos.

Now the slightly less good news - we haven't been able to replicate the quantity discount whereby multiple pairs of plates on the same order gave you a lower price. So to compensate for this, you can get a 25% discount on ALL etched items for the time being by entering the code ETCH25 at checkout.

As an example of the new products we are now listing, some recently added carriage & wagon works plates (why should locos get all the attention?)

We will continue to add more products and improve the information around ordering, this has been quite a complex change so if you do notice anything that doesn't look quite right please get in touch.

* If you see anything you want in a scale that isn't listed please let me know and I'll add it.

A quick preview of our upcoming 009 kits.

20530598882_0595fb3611_z.jpg

NPL-008 Hudson-Hunslet 24hp light diesel

Our first complete locomotive kit, comprised of a 3D printed shell and etched nickel silver detailing parts. Rather than needing to source a chassis, however, this kit includes all the parts necessary to build the complete model. This includes a 3D printed brass chassis block, gears, wheels, and a motor. While the etched detailing parts can all be glued into place a small amount of soldering will be necessary in order to complete the electrical connections. Comprehensive instructions are provided with the kit.

We have run a pre-order programme for this kit, but there are a small number still available from the first batch - they will be on sale at ExpoNG at the end of October at £80 and further production is planned.

21782781700_ec2a60ee38_z.jpg

NPL-009 Hudswell-Clarke 0-4-0T

This is a mixed media (3D printed and etched nickel silver kit) based on the very smooth running Minitrains Fiddletown & Copperopolis loco chassis which we will be able to supply with the kit. It's based on the features of a number of small Hudswell-Clarke locos, mainly supplied to overseas industry, and will include two cab styles, two tank overlay styles, choice of chimneys (straight or balloon stack) and optional details for fuel rails and air or vacuum brake equipment.

A bit of tweaking still to do around the cab, and I need to check the other cab style goes together, but otherwise what you see here is 95% done. This test build is "colonial industrial" so I have added the fuel rails and left off the train braking parts.

Release is also on target for ExpoNG. Price on the day will be £125 including Minitrains chassis or £65 for the kit only. NEM coupling sockets and Peco GR-102 couplings are also included.

One of those items we're happy to add to our range by request - Great Western Railway Signal Box Nameboards. This style of cast plate was used by the GWR from around 1891 onwards. By amazing chance there is a comprehensive book by Michael Dunn on their design and history so we have taken the sizing from this. Over the years more than 4,500 were made!

There is always some variance between modern typefaces and the original lettering patterns used in the casting of these types of plate. The illustration here is a close match but there's a little more work to do, especially on the G which is very distinctive (and appears on every board...)

Use the discount code ETCH25 at checkout to receive 25% off orders of custom etched items.

I've just received a pair of 4mm scale GWR loco number plates, ordered a couple of months ago in anticipation of arriving just as the loco was ready for them. Of course the loco isn't actually started yet! They're produced in batches, which is why you have to wait.

Just before they were going for etching I received a copy of the artwork, but the spacing of the numbers was wrong, as there was too much space at each end. The number is 1817, so has two narrow figures. I e-mailed a photo of the loco they're for, and they promised to correct it. What arrived today is just right. Great service and product, especially as with a painted background and postage the price was only £2.63.

I ordered 3 sets of nameplates and I have to say the whole process was really straightforward and easy. I thought that the price was really good value for money, and the fact that I can see the artwork before it goes for etching is a huge bonus. I highly recommend them and I will definitely be ordering again.

Due to the UK's weather situation, our planned trip to the Norfolk & Suffolk NGM members' day in Beccles has been called off - hopefully to be rescheduled for later in the year.

To make up for not being there, you can get a 10% discount on any order placed through the Narrow Planet website by using the discount code SNOWDAY at checkout. It's valid once per customer until midnight UK time on Saturday 3rd March.

Included in the deal are our new L&B style buffer stops, which would have been available for the first time at the show. Fill yer (snow) boots!

45947570382_c125aba2c2_c.jpg

For release at Warley is a limited edition run of a freelance Beyer-Peacock 0-4-2T kit in 009, designed for the Minitrains F&C chassis. Inspired by the design of the Glyn Valley Tramway locos of the same arrangement, but without the bodywork required for roadside running, this model depicts a loco of the Llanfyllin & Llangynog Light Railway. This little known railway was later absorbed by the GWR and a Swindonised appearance can be seen in it's later form.

45947574252_0d14e60589_c.jpg

The kit is comprised of a 3D printed body shell core, etched overlay detail and whitemetal castings. Nameplates, number plates and GW roundel transfers are also included, plus a short booklet on the fictional Llanfyllin & Llangynog Light Railway which will form a theme of other upcoming Narrow Planet products.

44181315560_b2bedbbd51_c.jpg

Price including Minitrains chassis will be £125, the body kit can also be sold separately on request. Come and take a look at the demo model at Warley on stand A16.
