Time to carry a Pepper Spray or get a dash cam fitted Gilbert; or do both! Dash cams are a Godsend for this sort of action by the Merc person who was very probably a con artist. I suppose he could have stolen it? Not a nice experience though so well 'escaped'.

Thank you for posting those pics and I do hope you enjoy working on the Gresleys. Our late friend Mr. Brewin, who around two years back, 'donated that Triplet as he really liked peterborough North's concept), will be pleased with the Triplet won't he, but will still have a giggle at the fact that it has taken so bl**dy long to do :beee:

I shall also just mention a thanks to TW for giving me a couple of sets of HD bogies for this build; I used these (sides only) on the existing Comet bogies etch frames. I then added another set of 'purchased'  MJT sides. The Comet ones are Standard Gresleys; very nice castings, but not chunky enough!

I've just remembered that the Brake still needs the footboards fitting on one side; don't let me forget that if you don't have the chance to fit them.

Take care.

Quackers.

The A1 was messed up this morning due to a couple of lorries wanting to occupy the same bit of tarmac somewhere in the Newark area. Thank goodness my journey is via the ECML ...

Seeing building things mentioned I seem to recall a certain telegraph pole being mentioned goodness knows how many pages back - it had some siblings as well I think.

The poles.......yes, just discussed this very afternoon. It is time to progress the Station forecourt area group. So expect them to arrive circa 2017. :paint: 'One' has to decide on which size brass (square) tube to use for the big b*****d' pole and then remind 'oneself' of the 'look' of the other three. Such fun...............

Oh, thanks for the info on the A1...hope all were ok but what a hel* of a hold up.

Just an update on the A1 accident near Claypole. The good news is that there were only minor injuries to one of the drivers. The bad news is that the Lorry loaded with Veggies caught fire and was difficult for the Fire Brigade to extinguish. It therefore melted the road surface which will need replacing.Diversion via A46 & A52 is still in place.

Grantham is like a car park, but then whats new about that.

Those coaches look smashing with that clean paint finish. When I say clean, I mean no gremlins under the paintwork. Lining Gresley coaches is no easy task when they carry maroon livery due to the variations that exist on etched beading even from the same producer. Is the maroon from a car-can or is it enamel?

Sorry to hear you are joining 'orthopaedics are us' Gilbert - Mrs H and I both have the T shirt, her knee and my hip - the pain they can inflict is really rather unpleasant, and hard to imagine for the non-afflicted.  Look after it, and hopefully it will recover - the various operations take some time to recover from in our experience, and a duck-under, well, um, not easy.

It is so nice to see our resident duck making the gift of his fine work, having had some correspondence with him I have the feeling he's a really nice bloke drake, and it warms my heart to see the generosity of our fellow RMWebbers.  He's done me favours too, he's a decent duck.

@New Haven Neil I think the most frustrating aspect is that all the literature, and even the pre-op consultations, is all around resuming a normal and full life in a few months, when the reality is quite different.

According to my specialist, who fitted me with a replacement kneecap and trochlear groove last December, after 6 months I'd be playing golf, doing ballroom dancing and ready to do a sponsored walk. The reality is that joint is still fluid and I can just about get from the car to the office.

As if that wasn't enough, the other knee  has now kicked off so I'm back to see the original knee surgeon this morning!

My long-suffering wife asked me las week what I wanted for a 60th birthday present, to which I replied 'To be 55 again!' As it is she bought me an iPhone 6, so at least I have a better camera and a screen I can actually read!

Good morning all and thank you so much for your comments.

Larry, it is taking me a very long time but it was your original coach thread that first inspired me. For that, huge thanks and also ongoing encouragement over the last couple of years.

With help also from the late Geoff Brewin re soldering Comet kits (started with Gresleys) and from the still intact Tony Wright on RTR coach conversion, plus a load of support on here, I have eventually got this far.

The maroon is Halfords Ford Burgundy Red on Halfords (standard) Brown Primer. I have started using Halfords etching primer on Larry's advice, but not on these two.

I've got a great deal to learn though and lining is a Beecher's Brook to come!

I have only a stored, EM, DCC, early diesel era layout that hardly ever comes out to play and so I am happy to contribute some little bits to other's lovely layouts either as gifts or as a loan. I have the privilege to be able to visit the  actual Peterborough North, Little Bytham and the various layouts of PMP including Albion Yard (now stored I think?) Then I can see A Nod to Brent on here + a host of others either completed or under construction. Such great layouts and lovely entertainment.

I am supposed to be building a representation of Seaton Junction as you may know. Well, it will happen and once the loft/roof tanks have gone in around three weeks time after boiler replacement, then work will begin......at last.

I have to get to grips with poles now....hey ho!

Quackers.

P.S. I don't get to see Andy York these days but his RMWeb has given me and thousands the opportunity to enjoy our hobby so much more. So Mr York....thanks a bunch.

Finally. I didn't know Dave Shakespeare personally but his spirit lives on as far as I'm concerned and some part of his work will be for ever Seaton Junction. Also Geoff Brewin, a gentleman and long time friend that gave me the chance to be a small part of Comet Models for a few years and just a few of his lovely coaches will grace SJ as well.

Sounds lile a party Leader's farewell speech this, so I'm shutting up now and going to Donny to do some spotting. :mail:

@Mr. duck I heard that there are a lot of Poles in East Anglia - are you planning some kind of radical scheme to get them all to go home?

IF so who's going to manage your plumbing?

One of 'em thought he could get into No.10. Another plumber..?  :smoke:

To get back on topic, I wondered if Gilbert and Andy Y etc are still photographing models with a Canon G12 or has something better been diascovered?

I don't think the knee problem is serious fortunately. I had the same thing a while back, and was sent for an X ray as they suspected arthritis. That came back negative. :imsohappy: Which is good. There is only one problem...... I can't remember which knee was X rayed. :dontknow:  Whichever, it is the same symptoms. I've also had both hips Xrayed, and that came back negative too, so hopefully arthritis is not a condition I have to fear.

As to our Phil, you are absolutely correct. He's a lovely bloke..... considering he's a duck. I'm particularly delighted that Larry has commented so favourably, as Phil was a bit uncertain in his own mind as to the quaility of his work. I told him there was no need, but Larry's approval means so much more.

We are both still using the G12 Larry. I'm told that the latest updated version is not as good. It is really very good at what it does. One just has to accept its limitations. For the kind of images I like to produce, it is ideal, though I don't begin to understand most of the things it can apparently do.

Well Phil, you were very uneasy about painting weren't you? And look how that turned out. I'm sure lining will be no more than a small hurdle to overcome. Good to hear that the loft will soon be ready, and I shall look forward to repaying your generosity by performing simple tasks to help get the layout under way. At least you don't have any duck unders to negotiate. Except for yourself of course.

Hi Gilbert

I think you a correct when you say the later Canon models are not as good as the G12, I recently purchased the G1X a great camera that takes stunning photos but not for model railway photography.

The photos I take on the G1X are nowhere near the quality of your photos due to the focusing down to about 50mm capability that the G12 has so I use my iPad camera which helps.

I am seriously thinking of purchasing a second hand G12 off Ebay.

Please keep the PN photos coming.

Regards

David

I got bored after almost falling asleep at Donny and then coming home earlier than usual as there was hardly any freight action; (what pi**es me off is the lack of ER pacifics and no bl**dy B1s. Even a Dubdee would have been good, but nah).

Anyhow the boredom resulted in a bit of action. Two poles down and two to go for the P.N. Station forecourt and Cattle/Parcels south end Dock area. This does not include  'The Beast' as seen outside the Station entrance. That needs a serious bit of brass square 'tube' and several glasses of a certain malt before production!

Gilbert, get the 'painting station' ready mate! They will come primed and ready to splosh.

Sincerely,

Manic Drake of 36E

P.S. Did Torksey work for you?

Great fun isn't it? We have similar issues with the pre-war scene and Jonathan is doing a magnificent job in filling the gaps to enable us to recreate representative formations that (hopefully) at least go some way to capturing the flavour of these distinctive trains.

attachicon.gifTW-1428935492_thumb.jpg

Take this set in the making, for example. This will represent the 5.50pm departure from King's Cross and looks to be broadly equivalent of your 1820. The formation from behind the loco is:

BCK (Lincoln) / BTK ('R')TO RF SFO (Leeds) / BFK TK BTK (Harrogate) / BCK (Halifax)

It should be:

BCK (Halifax) / BTK TK RTP RF SFO (Leeds) / BFK TK BTK (Harrogate) / BFK TK BTK (Bradford) /BCK (Lincoln)

So we've dropped one of the 3-coach through portions (as they are identical) and lost the TK in the main portion to get it down to a manageable train length. Also swopped the designation of the BCKs round - the Lincoln coach is shunted off at Grantham and it's simpler (from an exhibition point of view) doing it from the front.

And yes, different formation in the reverse direction - if you can even trace the equivalent reverse working, as all portions and through coaches did different things anyway! The lengths the LNER / BR(E) (and no doubt other companies / regions) went to tailor each train service to meet established / evolving travel needs is at times breathtaking.

So yes, I empathise - virtually impossible to truly replicate all the exact formations but great fun trying!

I love that Southern approach to Grantham - in fact I'm rather envious that you have managed to find the space to model it. Lovely train too. The other thing which I reckon would be fascinating would be to compare the basic WTT's for your period and mine. I'm willing to bet that there would be a great deal of similarity.
