RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted February 9, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted February 9, 2019 (edited) I am waiting the arrival of my joiner, who is going to exclude some draughts for me. I am already braced for the cries of rage from said draughts, and formal protests against their exclusion. That A2/3 is viewed from the rear, and is without an appropriate lamp. However, as this is happening right under the eyes of the bobby in North box, who knows exactly what is going on, local rules apply. The sense of space you have achieved in that B&W shot is stunning. Martyn 1 2

They are now excluded, except for one corner where a shock alarm gets in the way. This of course means that they are now a small minority, and will never stop moaning until they get their "rights".
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted February 9, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted February 9, 2019 There is quite a lot of waiting going on at present. Another 4MT will soon be on its way to Kings Lynn. First though the Standard 4MT at Platform 6 will head off towards Birmingham, and after the A2/3 has coupled up, its short trip to Grantham will begin.

malcolmrhine
Hello Gilbert, further to the earlier discussion regarding the multi-storey car park, I have been racking my brains and I believe it was built in 1992-3. I actually worked on that job as site engineer so I ought to be more definite but age is taking it's toll! I have admired your layout ever since I started looking at RMweb. When I came across it I spent many happy hours reading the thread from start to finish and that was when it was about 250 posts! Great work and brilliant photo's. That all seems to fit. I first came to Peterborough in 1982 and we used to shop in the Queensgate Waitrose - one of the very few supermarkets in Peterborough at the time! I commuted to London between mid-1986 and the abrupt collapse of civil engineering in the 1991 recession, and I have no recollection of the “Yellow” car park at that time. The footbridge across Bourges Boulevard was there, though; that was part of the original Queensgate development.

RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted February 10, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted February 10, 2019 There was still little moving, so our man decided, for some reason, to use some precious film on a couple of vans. He was quite safe to stand where he did, as the signalman in Crescent box is a mate of his, and gave him the all clear. Then he moved along and into the loading dock area, where he got this somewhat more interesting view.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted February 11, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted February 11, 2019 Wandering around like a lost soul, our chap next decided to take another view under the roof. Owing to a senior moment, the guard forgot which way the train was going to travel, but there is plenty of time for him to transfer the lamp to the rear end. Stepping back a few paces, the CCT in number 1 bay caught the photographer's attention, so he took a shot of that as well. It is hoped that the sound of moving trains will be heard again shortly.

RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted February 11, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted February 11, 2019 My visitor yesterday was Andy aka The Green Howards. Some may recall that a while back he very generously offered to build two Thompson sleeping cars for me, and yesterday they arrived. We did run them in the correct formation of the 7.30pm KX- Aberdeen, though only after I had started by referring to the 7.45pm, which has a different formation, instead. By the time we had finished assembling, chatting, and sorting one or two minor coupling problems, the light had gone, so no photos were taken. As they aren't scheduled to run for several hours yet in the sequence, I decided to pose them for you to admire. I'm delighted with them. Somehow, I now need to find a way to acquire a Gresley 66ft 6ins SLF to go with them. I think I can hear Steve 31A shivering from here. 25 8
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted February 11, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted February 11, 2019 It really is about time we saw another moving train, so here is a KX Goods- York parcels, which will stop for some time at Platform 6. Apparently it often used to be hauled by a Pacific, but now the latest batch of 9Fs have taken over. We also have another shot with nothing happening, but again I can't get the cursor to move where I want it to go. Great to see Can I suggest with regards to your cursor comment. When you get to a point where you want to insert a picture, hit the Enter/Return key THREE times, then do your next bit of text. You can then use the mouse or your keyboard cursor keys to position the cursor on the middle of the three lines at any point, click the '+' for the appropriate picture, then move to the next gap, click the middle of the three lines etc.. etc... and your done!
