That artic twin, and the rest of its five set, is being propelled into platform 3 to form the 3.58 to Grantham. The N5 is having a very busy spell. I've messed up again somehow, so must tell you here that the second image shows 60523 backing down towards the stock.

The sense of space you have achieved in that B&W shot is stunning.

I am waiting the arrival of my joiner, who is going to exclude some draughts for me. I am already braced for the cries of rage from said draughts, and formal protests against their exclusion.

Tut, tut Gilbert. Surely you know that the watchword nowadays is "inclusion"? If they identify as draughts, then they are draughts and must be included.

Absolutely. Draughts are just as valid as a howling gale, or for that matter a set of chess pieces...

Gilbert's draughts are included...………………….with the things that must be eliminated!

They are now excluded, except for one corner where a shock alarm gets in the way. This of course means that they are now a small minority, and will never stop moaning until they get their "rights".

Morning Gilbert, whilst searching last night I came across these pics of Peterborough North. If you click on view more, there's loads from various places. I suspect you've seen them all as your research is pretty thorough, but just in case....

Hello Gilbert, further to the earlier discussion regarding the multi-storey car park, I have been  racking my brains and I believe it was built in 1992-3. I actually worked on that job as site engineer so I ought to be more definite but age is taking it's toll! I have admired your layout ever since I started looking at RMweb. When I came across it I spent many happy hours reading the thread from start to finish and that was when it was about 250 posts! Great work and brilliant photo's.

Regards, Malcolm.

That all seems to fit. I first came to Peterborough in 1982 and we used to shop in the Queensgate Waitrose - one of the very few supermarkets in Peterborough at the time!  I commuted to London between mid-1986 and the abrupt collapse of civil engineering in the 1991 recession, and I have no recollection of the “Yellow” car park at that time.

The footbridge across Bourges Boulevard was there, though; that was part of the original Queensgate development.

Can't think of anything Maroon on the Brighton Line out of Vic in the mid 60s. I suppose it is vaguely possible it was a suburban set in Maroon? Oxted perhaps; was that out of Vic and through EC?  Dudders may well know.

Apologies for absence. On my first return to RMweb after the upgrade I decided another week off might fortify me for coping with change. Might. I cannot think of many reasons for red/crimson/maroon stock to be at YO (LBSCR telegraphic code for East Croydon) in the 1960s. Perhaps Inter-Regional trains to Brighton or Eastbourne?

That's one of the two sources I rely on most Gordon. Loads of good stuff, and he still occasionally post more. He's very good about allowing me to put it on here too.

By the way, I'm so relieved that you finally tore yourself away from gradients.

According to an article in the Wisbech local paper Perkins Car Park (later changed to Yellow) was built in the late 1980's - https://www.wisbechstandard.co.uk/what-s-on/entertainment-news/gallery-queensgate-peterborough-celebrates-30th-birthday-with-photo-exhibition-and-family-fun-1-1231729

The same article is repeated in the Peterborough local paper as well - https://www.peterboroughtoday.co.uk/news/30th-anniversary-for-peterborough-shopping-centre-the-changing-face-of-queensgate-1-3609937

Not sure how I've missed this thread over the last 9 years!  With 811 pages I've had to skim through and look at the pictures, an awesome and inspirational layout.  Great stuff.

Cheers ... Alan

Thank you Alan, and welcome. There is no requirement to read all 811 pages, though I believe some have tried.:jester:

It really is about time we saw another moving train, so here is a KX Goods- York parcels, which will stop for some time at Platform 6. Apparently it often used to be hauled by a Pacific, but now the latest batch of 9Fs have taken over. We also have another shot with nothing happening, but again I can't get the cursor to move where I want it to go. N5 seen through a gate, it is called.

Keep going with the photos Gilbert!  Great to see :)

Can I suggest with regards to your cursor comment.  When you get to a point where you want to insert a picture, hit the Enter/Return key THREE times, then do your next bit of text.  You can then use the mouse or your keyboard cursor keys to position the cursor on the middle of the three lines at any point, click the '+' for the appropriate picture, then move to the next gap, click the middle of the three lines etc.. etc... and your done!

Today I shall mostly be lashing at poor innocent golf balls, but first the morning photos. The 9F has come to a halt, and the crew can have a fifteen minute rest.1805812422_221772.JPG.8a1d1c4fd3fce8982f9eaf3e388e1488.JPG

we also have another murky black and white shot, in which the V2 pilot can be seen wondering if it is ever going to be called upon to do something. I got it right this time, but I'm not sure how.1022612885_12V2pilot.JPG.ab38a6bc730919f5b3e3f020d4c2df1c.JPG

That 9f really is a stonking beast, and the weathering adds to its powerful image; Bachmann or kit-built...?

Wandering around like a lost soul, our chap next decided to take another view under the roof. Owing to a senior moment, the guard forgot which way the train was going to travel, but there is plenty of time for him to transfer the lamp to the rear end. Stepping back a few paces, the CCT in number 1 bay caught the photographer's attention, so he took a shot of that as well. It is hoped that the sound of moving trains will be heard again shortly.1570186304_9under.JPG.6eea14016b467bbdc3121839718e02aa.JPG983825743_10CCT.JPG.6f337e2872afef3a4b8d832087588682.JPG

The photo taken under the canopy is exactly how I remember it . Absolutely Superb !
