RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted January 1, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 1, 2020 The Norseman now appears, with Quicksilver lurching round the curve and under the bridge. I reckon this doesn't look right- the curve is just too sharp- so I didn't do any shopping on it. I'd like your opinions. If you agree, I won't try this one again. It is OK a bit further back, so we won't lose the viewpoint entirely. Number 15 then meets the very slow moving 04 as it negotiates the dog's leg curve.
westerner
Once again I have to disagree Gilbert. I've been many photos of real track s approaching stations which have that look about them. It could be that in real life foreshortening makes the curves appear sharp. So to me your photo works. 2 8

Gilbert I am inclined to agree with Westerner, but as I don't like foreshortened photos, it is not one of my favorites. It does look as though it could be a photo of the real thing, though, so in that sense is successful. May I wish you and all your helpers a very happy New Year, and many thanks for the hours of fine entertainment that you have given us. Looking forward to more! RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted January 1, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 1, 2020 So here is anothe close up of an oncoming A4. The cameraman will be stepping back smartly now he's go the shot. It is much safer up on Spital Bridge, provided you don't lean out too far.

RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted January 2, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 2, 2020 A nice sunny morning at PN, as a Cravens DMU arrives from Louth. From the South, in comes the Elizabethan. 29
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted January 2, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 2, 2020 Lovely shiny number 12 has now gone into the gloom beneath the roof, but our men still decide to use film on it while under there.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted January 3, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 3, 2020 Now this is more like it. A side on view of the gleaming Haymarket A4 in full colour. Then it is time for the Birmingham-Ely, which Leicester shed again entrusts to its nearly new Standard 4. I decided to spend much more time than usual on those pesky overlapping signals. There is a marginal improvement, but I'm not sure enough to justify the effort involved. Mind you, I have since had another idea- that's two this year already, and if the promised wall to wall sunshine appears, I will go and test it out.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted January 3, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 3, 2020 The DMU has now been able to cross to number 5 bay, and have a rest, while next to it, another Ivatt has brought in stock for a Yarmouth Beach service. Its crowded down by Crescent Bridge, The 4MT comes off, and 61653 will replace it. Meanwhile an A3 appears. Victor Wild has the 9.40 Newcastle, one of Grantham's top turns.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted January 4, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 4, 2020 First game of golf for a fortnight. We won last time, so expectations are not that high, nor, worryingly, am I looking forward to it. Following Victor Wild this morning. In the gloom.... and out again.
RMweb Premium great northern Posted January 4, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted January 4, 2020 I have rather a lot of pictures in reserve, so here's another to be going on with. 60105 going round a bend which shouldn't be there, but taken mainly to show some details of the stock . A washer will be put in to correct that sag in the triplet, when I can remember to get some.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted January 4, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 4, 2020 Two more shots taken on the same day. The first is on the camera's daylight setting, and with my choice of exposure settings. I get a brown hue when the sun is coming in diagonally at this time of year, and this is the best I could do to get rid of it. The next one is taken at the other end of the room, within a few minutes of the first, and the brown effect was even worse, so I switched to auto, and this is what the camera came up with. Quite a dramatic difference, and a much colder feel, but which do you prefer, please? Colder isn't really the word I'm struggling to find, but I can't think of a better one.

They both look good to me, but I think I prefer the first one. If the second was much browner/ warmer on the daylight setting then you did the right thing to change to auto for that exposure.
jukebox
Warm and cool are *exactly* the terms to use, Gilbert. It's the colour temperature of the light. I know you don't use it, but in Photoshop, you can even apply a simulated photography filter - in this case an 82 (blue) to remove the colour cast: Cheers, Scott Edited January 5, 2020 by jukebox 12
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted January 5, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 5, 2020 We now come to pictures I took on New Years Day. That now seems a long time ago, and I can't remember whether it was the lovely sunny day of the week, or whether I had already done a bit more tweaking of the backstop behind Spital Bridge. As these photos are of trains approaching from that direction, I suspect it is the latter. Here comes the second Up Cleethorpes, with 61190, which I had neglected to use now that I have two properly Timmed Immingham B1s. It has sat and gathered dust for some time, and of course I forgot to remove it. The B1 stopped for five minutes and then went on its way, to be followed by an M&GN service from Yarmouth.

While we weren't looking though, Duke of Rothesay has brought in the stock for the 1130 to Edinburgh.

RMweb Premium great northern Posted January 6, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted January 6, 2020 Right, I'm going to settle down now. By sheer coincidence, this morning's first locomotive is....... a Thompson Pacific. This is a horrible image, but it genuinely is the next one in the store. Not the sub class Hornby have just announced, hardly surprisingly. This is what I get as reward for trying to take pictures when I know there isn't enough light, and it is no more than I deserve. Meanwhile, it is time for the Flying Scotsman, which has diesel (under)power this morning.

I can't believe it, and when we get not one but two, and the W1 as well,I suspect that I have been in hibernation for three months, and woken up on April 1st. I feel that the very least I can do is to support Hornby by purchasing at least one or two, if not more. Though of course I don't need any more. I fear that I may have recaught locoholism from that nice Mr Mortimore, who is obviously suffering from it at present. 4 2
