RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted January 20, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 20, 2020 Off to Little Bytham shortly, so just time to see Victor Wild and the 9.47 Newcastle relief. I sometimes think this slightly higher viewpoint is a better one. Meandering along after the express has cleared, a J6 heads tender first for an afternoon's work at Ramsey.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted January 20, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 20, 2020 A very nice day at Little Bytham, where I took rather a lot of photos, a few of which may appear here, but most on the appropriate thread. When a relief runs, the main train is usually not far behind, as here, where Silver King appears with the 9.55 Newcastle.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted January 21, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 21, 2020 Next along was a mixed goods to London, but this one started from Colwick, which gave an excuse to see another K3 in action. It isn't a Colwick engine actually, and it isn't correct in more than one respect, but apart from that, everything is OK. The second is again taken from the slightly higher level, which I personally think is a bit better.

I agree as well, though I find any photo of your model interesting. I think the higher level shot might work better because you can see more of the wonderful scenery behind the moving bits. Literally, it widens the horizons.

RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted January 21, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 21, 2020 This morning my railway room seemed suddenly to be very small. I wonder why? Still, it is not going to grow, so I shall make the best of what I have. TW has kindly given me permission to put on here some of the pictures I took of the lovely wide open spaces at Little Bytham, so here is the first one. I'm not sure I've ever seen a model of a D9 before, and I certainly never saw the real thing. 25

I made this one from an old McGowan kit (a bit lumpen), making a brass chassis to replace the original cast metal (and very wobbly) one. Geoff Haynes painted it. My architectural modelling (the wooden cottages) has never been my strong point! Regards, Tony. I've felt lately that I tend to make images too light, so with this one, and others, I've taken highlights and brightness down a bit. Yours looks better though, and it is sharper too. Perhaps I overdid it a bit.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted January 21, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 21, 2020 I've realised why I'm ambivalent about the higher level views. Quite simply, I'm uncomfortable about them because I know that it wouldn't be possible in reality to get to the position to do it. Which is all a bit sad really isn't it? Because this is not reality, this is me taking photos of my train set, and finding ways of showing it to you in different ways. Sometimes I am a remarkably silly person. It was also silly to take a high level view of this, as it revealed a lot of extraneous stuff which had to be photoshopped out rather tediously. This one, on the other hand, was very user friendly. I haven't cropped it this time, in order to show the massive bulk of the bridge.

RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted January 22, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 22, 2020 Today I intended to play golf for the first time for nearly three weeks, but when I opened the curtains I was greeted by thick fog. I'm beginning to wonder if I am being given a message. Here is the Northumbrian again, with Enterprise on the way back to Grantham, having gone up with the 7.30 earlier. Shortly it will pass two light engines. 61630 will wait by the coaling stage before taking a southbound train, while the filthy Gateshead A3 is coming along the engine line. Once 60111 has passed through, it will hope to be allowed to cross to the Down bay. 34

RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted January 22, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 22, 2020 The fog relented, we played a few holes of golf, and I played better than I have for ages. Could it be that the release from the shackles of club politics really is already having an effect? Mind you, one can get stressed in other ways, and here is an example. Now, I would like to claim that the white band on the A3's boiler was the result of a bad case of priming, but I doubt you would have believed me. But no, during four seconds of delay, out came the sun from behind a cloud, and what's more, it found a very small gap in the blinds, and one where its effect would be most noticeable. Its a really nice shot apart from that. If there was such a thing as an Up Scotch Goods, this Class C from Inverkeithing would be it, but it doesn't qualify for A4 haulage.

RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted January 23, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 23, 2020 A closer view of the V2 on the Class C this morning. Followed by a close up of Gladiateur, firstly because I at last remembered to dust the mess off it, and secondly because the sun didn't intervene this time.
