For me it has to be the Metropolitan Railway class K - later (from 1937) LNER class L2 - closely followed by the BR Riddles Class 4 tank and the - much maligned - SR River Class (the problem was as much. if not more, to do with the poor track bed than the loco design).

A freight version of the River class?

In effect, yes, w lots of common parts with the N, N1, U, U1 2-6-0s. Always found stooging around the London suburbs on transfer freights.

Is stooging around the London suburbs allowed these days?

A start has been made on sucking up sludge, but it is quite a big pond, and the novelty wore off before it was half done. More tomorrow, maybe.

With our afternoon refreshment today, we have B1 61282, returning from London with the 5.52 from KX.

Anyone mentioned a Fairburn 2-6-4T yet?

I did, but chose the 6th type in the Fowler/Stanier/Fairburn/Riddles class 4 2-6-4Ts, the LMS/NCC class WT.

Now if the LMS had made 2-6-0 versions of the class 4 tanks then wouldn't have they been great, just like the W class 2-6-0s were.

Another look at 61282.

And then the carriages. It won't take long, as there are only four, but all Gresley stock.

Hi Gilbert

It has been reported that Peco suspended production of track and have been making PPE.

G'Day Folks

As a model, I like the Thompson L1, but as a full sized loco, well the less said the better. The BR 4MT is a pretty good balanced design, which gets my vote.
