Just "stone" on its own would have been more meaningless as many of my post are.

I always thought that Penrith was North of Weaver Junction. They move everything these days. No wonder I can't find anything! Lloyd 1

Easy tiger. Current poll only extends as far north as Crewe / Manchester ... 1

If in doubt, replace 'i' with '1', 'o' with '0' (etc) - we'll all know what you mean!

Yes, in summer. As you know, with my (our) previous employer, moves around the country were not infrequent. One of the first things I'd do after such a move was to join the local cricket club (summer) and rugby club (winter). A great way to start feeling at home. 1

RMweb Gold DaveF Posted July 30, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 30, 2020 Another vote for Crewe from me. I have happy memories of visits there in the early 70s. David

RMweb Gold The Pilotman Posted July 30, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 30, 2020 Has to be Crewe; never a dull moment. I went there many times about thirty years ago en route to the signalling school at Webb House.
mullie
Crewe for me too, I've actually been to that station! I'm now realising my railway travels have been quite sheltered. I've been to loads of places just not by train! Martyn

2750Papyrus
Logically Crewe or Rugby; local interest would suggest Bletchley but I will vote for Stockport Edgeley. In the late 60's, after electrification, I used to travel back to Didsbury via Edgeley on Sunday nights when I had been home to London, transferring to a North Western Road Car no 80 to Barlow Moor Road. (A long walk home from Wellington Road in the early hours of the morning if I'd seen my then girl friend home.)

RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted July 31, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted July 31, 2020 Preparing for 33c this afternoon. I don't think I'll be in the railway room then. At PN, the Talisman is due to pass through at 9.21pm, when it would probably be a lot cooler. Somehow though there is still enough light to allow photography, as Silver King comes through.
RMweb Premium great northern Posted July 31, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted July 31, 2020 For a while yesterday Clive was in danger of voting for a winner, but in the end Crewe came through strongly, and defeated Bletchley by 9 votes to five. Today, WCML from Crewe to Carlisle, and we mustn't forget the Midland from Leeds northwards, so that's included too.
