For this one, I'm going for:

Monsal Dale

As 'wayside' as they come and just a short walk away from one of the country's most iconic railway locations - even with there being no rails there these days (perchance they return)

I expect many of you folk on here have had a cataract replacement, well on Tuesday I joined the club, and this morning bought a pair of 34.99 reading glasses, so I can once again use the computer.

they are still bedding in - Ive got the right one in two weeks, and have been told it takes six weeks to bed in fully, but OMG what a difference!

Now I may finally be able to see all the rivets that us folks are so supposed to love counting! I can also see the difference between the different kinds of Pacifics - remembering which is which on the other hand....

Simple quick and painless procedure, and truly life enhancing. Welcome to the club, Peter.

I echo what Gilbert has said. What a difference! Everything seems a lot brighter as well. Keep up with the drops - it is not for long. I got a wee thing from Boots that clips onto the top of the dropper. It can rest on the surround to your eye and hold the dropper in the right place easily for you.

Another of these tripod shots, all of them experimental really. Too much wrong with this, in my opinion, but it does show a lot of the layout in context you don't normally get.

And as I've said before, it does give more context to the close-ups in which you specialise. A bit more Brian Monaghan, perhaps. Interspersing these occasionally is good.

Hi Gilbert,

I currently building a Gresley 61' Third open.  Do you have in your extensive list of Gresley coaches a Third Open. I am after a side shot, so I can get an idea where the Torpedo vents go.  I have done a search on google and found a few photos, but it will only get me to the point of estimating where they go. Water filler and hand rails are there too.  I have a drawing of interior and can work out the underframe. No hurry, just when it appears in the roster. Otherwise I will search through the pages.

Keep the photos coming.

thanks

Mark

Hi Mark,

I have these ready to hand. Do they help? If not, tell me what you need, and I'll find a coach, not difficult, and see what I can do.

I will suggest Bakewell for this one. Nice looking station.

Reminds me of a story that my son told me. One car at a rally was being driven and co-driven by two lasses from Bakewell. The commentator announced then as '... of Bakewell, where the tarts come from'.

When Adrian?

Sixties and most of the 70s.  I can just about remember steam hauled services, but I think by then they would have been freight only.

School used to use the Ledston branch as part of its cross country course, once the track was lifted.

Today, some more lovely small stations to choose from. Please consider the Hope Valley line, and the Midland from Derby to Manchester again, but not including Ambergate and Miller's Dale, already done as junctions.

Edale.  Nice scenic journey getting there, and I had a lovely week there many years ago.

Cue Kenneth Horne, doing his 60s weekly round-up of events : "On Monday I got my teeth into a nice Bakewell Tart. On Tuesday I left Bakewell and...."

Before my time! I was there from late 85 to early 90.
