RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted September 29, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted September 29, 2020 It's early, it s nearly dark, and its cold, as the heating has only just come on. Why am I playing golf so early? More roof lines this morning, as they fascinate me, and show the complexity of the work Peter Leyland had to do. then one that concentrates on the footbridge tower. 26 2
RMweb Premium great northern Posted September 29, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted September 29, 2020 Poll easily won by Conway with 8 votes. The castle is a great advantage when it comes to atmosphere. Today, Sheffield to Birmingham, where such sights are rather rarer.

LNER4479
Some pleasant scenery north of Derby so I will go for: Duffield, where you can still change trains for Wirksworth (when the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway is running). A busy four-track section in its day. In my first years with BR based in Derby, the Wirksworth branch was still in use (sort of) and I remember going down there a few times to play with track maintenance machines - great fun! 3

RMweb Premium 30368 Posted September 29, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 29, 2020 We are moving from rural South Wiltshire to lovely Buxton (I lived near Ashbourne for 20 years when the BRB Tech Centre was busy) so I vote for Buxton - a bit off track but a lovely part of Britain. RMweb Gold trw1089 Posted September 29, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 29, 2020 Dore and Totley please. My good friend David Bailey who used to record lots of steam specials has a particularly excellent recording of 45305 climbing to Dore and Totley tunnel. Made me fall in love with UK steam all over again and got me back into modelling in OO scale.

RMweb Premium Metropolitan H Posted September 29, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 29, 2020 My vote goes to Chesterfield, as it was the last place on that route that I visited - for a beer with friends! Regards Chris H
Eround
South Wingfield gets my vote. Great location to see Western allocated diesels(47's typically), cricket pitch next to the track and glorious sunny summers. Station is on the restoration list.

RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted September 30, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted September 30, 2020 The Flying Scotsman appears, apparently heading through a hurricane, headboard askew, lamps all over the place, and a fogman's hut blown over too. 19
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted September 30, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted September 30, 2020 Emerging from the gloom, and seen from the bridge, the headboard seems to have righted itself a little, but I really have no idea what happened to the lamps.
RMweb Premium great northern Posted September 30, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted September 30, 2020 Some strange things going on at the moment, but no doubt it will all settle down eventually. The poll was won by Duffield with 4 votes. We will carry on from Birmingham down to Bristol today, assuming that your replies actually get on here. I have several notifications, but the replies, so far, aren't coming through.

RMweb Gold Oldddudders Posted September 30, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 30, 2020 Cheltenham Spa, where monthly, 25 years ago, I would change from an HST that I had joined in Swindon, into a 158 to Brum, and thence another HST for an afternoon meeting in Derby. My day had started on the 5.41 from Staplehurst, and then the 08.00 from Padlington. Meetings at Swindon were a bit truncated so I could catch the train to Cheltenham!
