RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted December 15, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted December 15, 2020 Just one more look at Quicksilver. Then attention switches to Sir Nigel Gresley, bringing in the 7.30 Grantham-KX. Plenty more photos taken today, so rationing is over, at least for the time being.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted December 16, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted December 16, 2020 Staying focused on Sir Nigel this morning, with a side on view. Well, almost side on. Then we have a portrait of the great man.
RMweb Gold trw1089 Posted December 16, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 16, 2020 ‘tis a nice portrait of No.7. Is it due for Timming soon? Those shots of Quicksilver show the marque of the master of weathering that’s for sure.

Actually, when I looked at that image, my first thought was that he will now ask if he can have number 7 back for an upgrade! There are still a couple of totally untimmed ones in the queue before we can start thinking about that, though.

RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted December 17, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted December 17, 2020 Another paddle round the golf course this morning, but a lovely day forecast, which makes up for that. Just one image for now, which shows a J6 coming in with a very short parcels, which will dwell in number 1 bay for quite a while.

I now need to confirm once and for all whether it was upper or lower quadrant in the summer of 58. If the latter, it will be a NE feature, which is highly appropriate.

Lloyd Hi Lloyd, All parts are from the ever-excellent former-MSE range, available through Wizard Models. What I've assembled so far are the lattice base posts - two brass etches per pack, each folded through 90 degrees then soldered together to form the square post. To that, I've added a length of 0.8mm L-shaped brass strip down each edge which both strengthens the structure and gives a more realistic appearance. The bracket pieces are however the exception here. There isn't a part in the MSE range quite of that shape (there is a double bracket etch but it's a different shape). For the previous signal, I soldered them up from individual bar strip but these ones I had made specially on the back of some other etching requirements. 1
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted December 17, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted December 17, 2020 Still with the J6, not far to go before it has a rest now. I have a leaning signal in shot. Not sure how, as it was perpendicular very shortly before. Meanwhile, the second early stopping service to Grantham has arrived. Pacific hauled again, despite the light load, but Woolwinder will bring something more appropriate to a kylchap fitted A3 back to London later. I have read some very sad news today. Norman Saunders, the creator of the excellent trackwork you see on all of my images, has recently died. His work is a defining, lasting and essential element of what makes PN what it is. RIP, Norman. 11
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted December 18, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted December 18, 2020 The 8.00 KX-Leeds now comes under Crescent Bridge, Curlew at the head. I didn't bother photoshopping this one, as, for once, it would make little difference. A view from the other side of the bridge shows the J6 tucked away in the bay, and the crew no doubt having a nice long rest while the vans get sorted.

I have found a photo which definitely shows the signal as being upper quadrant. It is alleged to be taken in 1961, but wasn't, as the loco has the useless small deflectors which would have been removed when it went for overhaul in February 60. So now I have to trace the book in which I read details about it, to see if it happened between July 58 and Feb 60. 1
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted December 18, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted December 18, 2020 One more look at Curlew. RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted December 20, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted December 20, 2020 A black and white shot of Bois Roussel and the West Riding tonight. Signal still leaning, I'm afraid. It has been put right now, but will probably do it again. Cheers Tony I'm about to do something dangerous now, and rely on memory. Helped by Jonathan W, I was able to get Danny Pinnock to do some of his etches, which then went to Ian Willets to turn them into what you see here. They were actually for the LNER rake, and so had West Riding on the etches, which Ian succeeded in removing!

A very nice all Gresley five set. Soon afterwards, Gayton Hall starts away, and is seen from the far side of the bridge.
