Oh Gilbert. Wish you had stopped at Waverley. Makes the choice between the magnificent arrival there, in that wonderful cutting, surrounded by the glorious buildings in central Edinburgh and the  red structure, impossible.

In the hope you might repent, I go for Waverley.

P

Oh bum, failed again. Onwards from Edinburgh you said; yes I was obviously asleep.

The Bridge it is then.

Clive, this is for you. Mates in the DEMU and maybe contacts? My EM layout stored in the garage has to go. Free to a good home but collection required and it will need a van or very large Estate Car.

4 Sections 4' x 3'. Length 16', end to end. Photos to follow. DCC ready. Fully scenic, but maybe without some buildings that are available for a small fee, Diesel Shed and some outbuildings. It will need some tarting up after storage.

This one, you mean?

From a very enjoyable July evening 2019 when we enjoyed a meal in the pub right under the bridge at this (south) end .

It's an incredible structure, isn't it? Can you imagine anyone building something like this in the modern age?

Superb, just marvellous. I have never knowingly been over it or under it.

Well, I'm sure there's plenty of places you've been and things you've done that I haven't but ...

You might just about be able to make out the loco (which will come as no surprise). Even the fireman's taking pictures he's so excited!

There is something slightly bizarre about the fireman on a steam loco in modern times taking a pic of an oncoming DMU - even if the writing on the front says it's the First!

Tonight we have another of the occasional "what's behind the tender" features. The Dundee is a nice mixture, so here goes.

And not a Mk1 in sight.

I love seeing those coaches. Thank you.

We shall carry on to the end of our journey at Aberdeen. Some more very nice views on the right.

Cove Bay, the last bit on the top of the cliffs before the descent down into the Granite City itself. We have now arrived at our destination.

I'm not so familiar with that part of the Main Line; I have travelled from York to Inverness fairly often but usually via Ladybank & Perth.  But from what I remember, the view of Stonehaven, where the railway runs above the town, is pretty good.

00 Rolling Stock Mini-Poll No.1: Gresley & Thompson Gangwayed

Hello everyone

Welcome to the first of this series of seven Mini-Polls concerning rolling stock that has at least some connection with Peterborough North. I am running them on behalf of Gilbert.

You can submit your wishes here, on the thread, as usual, or PM me direct if you prefer the ‘secret ballot’ method.

If you vote on the thread, please feel free to explain why you have chosen your selection – hopefully, that will promote some interesting debates – but please do not take it as an excuse to start up the old chestnut of ‘kits vs RTR’!

Here’s what to do…

1. You may choose a maximum of three Gresley items and two Thompson.

2. You cannot ‘transfer votes’ to have five Gresley and no Thompson etc. although you can vote for just Gresley or just Thompson.

3. They must be items you would realistically wish to buy if made RTR.

4. Submit your entries on this thread simply as (for example): 2, 4, 7, 9, 10 – with comments and explanations following.

5. If you vote by PM, please only list your selection of numbers without explanations.

Get your thinking caps on and get voting!

1.   Gresley GE section Stock 52ft 6in (eg Diags.9, 141, 146, 216 of 1926-1936)

2.   Gresley General Service Stock 61ft 6in (eg Diags.1, 114, 115, 130, 174, 175 of 1920s-1939)

3.   Gresley ‘End Door’ Stock 61ft 6in (eg Diags.155, 211, 212, of 1932 & 1936)

4.   Gresley Sleeping Cars 61ft 6in (eg Diags.17, 20, 109 of 1924 & 1929)

5.   Gresley Tourist Green & Cream Stock (eg 61ft 6in BTO & Buffet, 52ft Artic Twin TO of 1933)

6.   Gresley Tourist Teak Stock (eg 61ft 6in Diag.186 TO & Diags.191/196 BTO of 1934 & 1935)

7.   Gresley Streamlined Stock (of 1935 & 1937) inc Beaver Tail Observation Cars (as built and rebuilt)

8.   Thompson Pressure Ventilated Stock (eg Diags.328, 329, 346, 348, 349, 351, 352, 353 of 1947)

9.   Thompson Round Corner Window Stock (eg Diags.328, 330, 345, 346 of c.1948)

10. Thompson Sleeping Cars 66ft 6in (eg Diags. 347, 359, 368, 369 of 1947-1952)

You have until 17.00 on Thursday 20 May. However, I will stop earlier and advise if votes reach 50. I will present the results during the day on Friday 21 May.

I look forward to your selections and comments!

Brian

(Note: These are ‘informal Polls for fun’ on Gilbert’s thread only and neither The 00 Wishlist Poll Team nor RMweb are specifically involved, apart from me in my ‘personal capacity’.)

Hi Brian,

Is this for OO only or for any scale?

Andy

Hello Andy

Good point! I'm so used to running just 00, it automatically happened!

I have amended the title accordingly!

Thanks.

Brian

Gresley GE section 52' 6" stock to the correct profile would be first on my list, but Gresley 61' 6" also to the correct profile would be a winner too, so I am voting for both of those.

Best wishes,

Alastair

Hello Alistair (and everyone)

Could I ask you vote 'by numbers' as requested, please? There are several 61ft 6in items.

This helps me log your exact wishes.

Thanks

Hello again Alistair and everyone

This is an example of how to submit your votes: 1, 3 , 5, 9, 10.

If you so desire, you can follow that up with your reasons and arguments as to why you think such stock should  be made.

Thanks

Brian

Looking at those categories and thinking about what I might actually buy for use on my layout, as opposed to 'nice to have', I shall vote for:

2, 3
