RMweb Gold jollysmart Posted October 12, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 12, 2020 Add my vote for Hayling Island, my daughter worked there for over a year and I visited her a good few times so realised just how useful a railway it could be. RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted October 12, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted October 12, 2020 The West Riding has gone, and it is departure time, so D11 Marne can get going on its way to Grimsby. The Goods has also gone, so now another WD can sneak along the slow, at least as far as signals. Just look how many lattices there were to photoshop on this image.

RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted October 13, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted October 13, 2020 Another early start, and still nearly dark. Just gone 5pm over 60 years ago at PN, and Sun Castle brings in the Up Glasgow.
RMweb Premium great northern Posted October 13, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted October 13, 2020 Easy win for Hayling Island 6 votes out of 10 cast. I thought the Terriers might do the trick. I think we've got to Kent now. There must have been some single track branches there, surely? Anyway, that's what it is today.

RMweb Premium Metropolitan H Posted October 13, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 13, 2020 I know it crosses the county boundary back into East Sussex, but my vote has to go to the "Kent and East Sussex Light Railway" - of Colonel Stephen's fame - at least from Headcorn to Wittersham Road and preferably all the way on to Robertsbridge. The alternative would be from New Romney onwards to the reversing loop at Dungeness on the RH&DR. Regards Chris H

I did consider New Romney but went for Lydd as it still has trains going to and from it all be it they are removing material to make nuclear bombs.

RMweb Premium TrevorP1 Posted October 13, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 13, 2020 Like many I suspect most of my visits to Kent have been to catch a train or ferry to France. The one line I know and where I've had sone great times is the Kent and East Sussex so it's the KESR for me please Gilbert.
RMweb Gold DaveF Posted October 13, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 13, 2020 (edited) Just to be different I'll go for Allhallows on Sea. It was single track from its opening in 1932 until 1935 so should qualify as a single track branch. May I suggest that, in the context of the line rather than the station, that could include the whole branch with both "twigs" to New Romney and Dungeness?
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted October 13, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted October 13, 2020 Mallard now stands at the head of the Glasgow, and waits for the off. A quite satisfying view, followed by a slightly dodgy close up.
