Today we shall look for the best B17 name. I suspect some tribal loyalties may be involved.

Like this, you mean?

It has to be 61637, Thorpe Hall, for me. It is where I was born. Long before it became an old folks home it was a maternity hospital. It will also be the nearest B17 location to Peterborough North.

I had hoped there might be separate votes for Footballers and famous houses!

I took little interest in football till I lived in digs In Manchester.  My fellow residents were nearly all footballers and fans and one night we went to a match at Maine Road.  I was hooked!  Good times; Charlton, Law and Best at Old Trafford and Lee, Bell and Summerbee at City, whom I supported as (initially) the underdogs.

My parents were deeply involved in Scouting all their lives and therefore 2871 loses out on this occasion to 2846, Gilwell Park, which was for them and many others the spiritual home of the Scouting movement.

There was a concerted effort by our upside down friends, but one of them hedged his bet, and gave two locos half a vote each. That means that Britannia herself with four votes, edges out Anzac with three and a half.

Knew I should've given them a full vote each :jester:

On B17s, I'm going to have to put in for 2862/61662 Manchester United.

Given that the team was originally formed of blokes from the carriage and wagon department of Newton Heath depot (with the team originally being named Newton Heath LYR Football Club), can you imagine how annoyed they'd be to see that name running around on an LNER loco!

Lots of different  candidates for the B17 vote, decided, as often happens, by a late night, for most of us anyway, vote from down under. Tottenham Hotspur 3 votes, Gilwell Park and Kimbolton Castle 2 each.

Shall we try D49s?  Shires first, we'll save Hunts till later. This will probably be tribal as well.

Has to be Morayshire for me too. I have trundled up and down Springfield Yard on its footplate many times. I remember very well the preparations for its trip to Shildon in 1975, in the company of CR 419, the NBR saloon, GNSR Royal Saloon and a CR coach. The whole train ran down the ECML at a maximum speed of 40mph, which must have caused havoc with the timetable.
