You are truly an artist.

I wonder what inspired you to get the goods stock out.....?

Love the cattle special...great what 2 shillings could buy you. (hope I,m right about the Airfix stock or I'll have egg on my face)

No confusion!

Just a change from the glamour boys at 64B. Yes these are the (pretty old) Airfix cattle wagons which still look the part after all these decades.

Great stuff for two bob!

Another one further round the layout.

I may have said it before, but I do like the detail of slacker pipes - absolutely prototypical!

The N15 on the cattle wagons is a lovely photo. I cant really justify one on my "just north of Newcastle" layout, but confess I was sorely tempted the other day when the package from Modelmaster announced the planned release of 5 NBR locos in resin, including an N15 and J37.  Get thee behind me, Satan....

Do I detect some venerable Kitmaster BR Mk1's among your coaching stock fleet, Eric ?

Alasdair

Spot on Alasdair!

Most of the rake was purchased in a second hand shop in, to use the local vernacular, "Stockaree" (Stockbridge) as the result of a tip off. When thinking about this it was 50 years ago, there's a thought!

Not much time for photographs of the layout this year due to, amongst other things, an effort to tackle the unbuilt kits, however. here are some snaps taken over the past couple of years hopefully of interest to some clicking through the Layout Topics pages!

Some lovely atmospheric shots. Have you seen the EP's on other threads regarding the new V2?

David,

They look really good and at long last the release date is not too far away. They will be company for my Nu-Cast V2!

Hi Eric -

What's the origin of your D49 (62719?) in the first of the 2 latest series of pics ?

Alasdair

Alasdair,

It is a DJH kit from the late 70s. It was one of their early releases,  hopefully still going strong - like us!

Eric,

A wonderful selection.

I especially liked the "sheen" on 64547 (about sixth shot in). Evidence once again of your mastery of loco finishing. Can't wait to see your latest creations....

May I be the first to wish you and yours a guid new year.

Lets hope for something good from Hornby...or Bachmann (the V2 is eagerly awaited. Lets hope sense prevails and we get a single chimney un named green version which did not feature in the original announcement all those years ago.....)

I spent my youth (late 50's to end of steam) trainspotting mostly at Craigentinny but never saw any of the B16s.  Having arrived at, presumably Niddrie, did they then go round the Sub to service at Haymarket?  Why not go to St Margarets?

Malcolm

PS. Not seen you in years!

They went round the Sub, as you write. It was the easier option with less congestion on the lines as opposed to the approaches to St. Margarets and faster to take on water and coal.

There are quite a number of photographs of B16s taken by John Robertson and Cecil Sanderson at Haymarket, usually posing at the west end with Murrayfield Stadium in the background or on freights heading for Niddrie at Cockburnspath

I am still bashing on and occasionally spending some dosh at Harburn Hobbies! Perhaps you may be going to the AMRSS Show in Glasgow next month? I will be on the North British Railway Study Group stand on the Saturday and Sunday for a couple of hours each day.

Running in just now for the latest addition to the freight roster. The B16s were frequent visitors to Edinburgh using Haymarket for servicing before returning south.

Hi Eric

Nice to see some new photos, lovely looking locomotive and beautifully weathered as well, I am sure I have seen some colour photos of the class as you said positioned at the west end of the MPD

I am sure you have seen the recent announcements from Hornby regarding the the pending A2/2's and A2/3's.

Can I please ask you one question, I am modelling Haymarket around the 1958/1959 period and would love to purchase an A2/2 as and when they become available.

I know some of the class were allocated to 64B in the late forties early fifties, but to the best of your knowledge do you know if any of the class ever visited the depot during the period I am modelling or even a little later, and if yes I would assume the loco would have had the late crest on the tender.

Regards

David

David,

They were all away by 1949. They did appear on an infrequent basis during the 50s and I have underlined in the ABC book 60501 and 60504 although I cannot remember anything about them!

In conversation some time ago a friend, sadly now deceased, saw one in either 1958/59 at Haymarket and it was not one of the aforementioned but I cannot recall which one. They were pretty rare here, that is for sure.

Hi Eric

Thank you for the reply and information what you say is a good enough reason to buy one when they become available and I believe 60501 is one of the model being produced and 60505 being the other.

its a class I have always wanted and now they are in RTR it’s an opportunity not to be missed

in fact when I commissioned PDK to build a Thompson Pacific for me I originally ordered A2/2 60506 but at that time I was just starting to plan Haymarket and changed the order to an A2/1 before they started to build the kit.

I suppose looking back now that was a good move as I have an A2/1 which is still not available in RTR.

I know you make up your own model kits but do you see yourself purchasing any of Hornby’s Thompson’s when they become available.

Regards

David
