I am so tempted to try to fit the tarpaulin between the cab and tender on some of my Pacific's, it certainly improves the look of the model. I did purchase some rubberised sheeting fro ma model shop many years ago but had such trouble trying to cut it I gave up. Seeing your photos I might just try to have another go, do you glue them in position to the loco and tender? Regards David
RMweb Premium 60027Merlin Posted April 3, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted April 3, 2020 David, I glue the sheet onto a piece of plasticard which is glued underneath the cab roof. Unfortunately Hornby have not got their measurements correct as the tender front is too high. To get the sheeting to sit right, a piece of the tender front at the top has to sawn off to assist in the overall look of the job. If you get the sheeting cut OK and fitted well then you can saw that bit off the tender front. However, if you do it the other way round and the cab sheeting does not work out, then you are left with a dodgy tender front! Eric
RMweb Gold trw1089 Posted April 12, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 12, 2020 So lovely to catch up on all your recent pics Eric. Love the B16 and K4, plus lots of shiny big engines. Hope you are keeping well with all the isolation measures. Take care Tony
RMweb Premium 60027Merlin Posted April 12, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted April 12, 2020 Many thanks Tony. Trust that you are also keeping well in these troubled times. I ran through the stock of photos a day or so ago and picked some freight scenes as possibles for here as an alternative to the shiny big engines, so here is a selection of mainly black locos going about their business in the local area. RMweb Premium 60027Merlin Posted April 21, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted April 21, 2020 A few snaps taken by train spotters hanging around the station, sometimes getting too near locos and even getting a couple of cops from Gateshead borrowed by Haymarket into the bargain.

RMweb Premium 60027Merlin Posted May 3, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted May 3, 2020 Too busy just now with kit building, gardening etc. for newly taken photos however there are a number on file so here are a few to keep under the maximum limit. As usual there are couple from the Haymarket top links, a Dundee Tay Bridge A2, a couple on the Pinkhill Branch and a slightly out of time period (just under a decade) of a Clayton with LGW wagons on a regular working on the Sub.
RMweb Gold trw1089 Posted May 3, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 3, 2020 Lovely shots Eric, but not sure about that Clayton stinking up the place. Still, the shiny streak in the last shot more than makes up for it!
RMweb Gold A Murphy Posted May 4, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 4, 2020 But the grain wagons are great. Alastair M
DOCJACOB
Bit harsh on the Clayton as there are a number of images on Railbrit of working E 18 (seem to recall that's the local reporting number) That's LGW wagons and a Clayton making there way round the Sub. Come to think of it don't recall seeing published images of any other class in diesel days?? Edited May 4, 2020 by DOCJACOB error noticed 1

Hi Eric Some really nice photos, I do like all the scenic work you have put into your layout absolutely fabulous. And as I bonus a K4 running on a freight, I know I'm pushing it but I am waiting for the day someone produces a K4 in RTR. Impossible, who knows who would have thought Hornby would be producing a A2/2, A2/3, and a W1 all in one go. Please keep the photos coming, very inspirational. Tom F
It’s sometime since I’ve seen what you’ve been up to Eric. Lovely seeing your little bit of ECML in Scotland once again. Always admired the finish on your Pacifics. It’s what inspired me to start weathering in the first place! Best Wishes Tom

RMweb Premium 60027Merlin Posted August 21, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted August 21, 2020 A few months ago I started building a couple of loco kits and am now only half way through what with gardening and other domestic jobs which my wife “suggested”. Two weeks ago before getting back to these kits I decided, for a change of subject, to build a few Parkside wagon kits which had been lying about for a while. They are now at home in the rake of LGW wagons which were a well known feature in Edinburgh mainly on the Sub. Here are some shots of them out on their debut run on the layout along with other stuff seen locally to make up the numbers. RMweb Premium 60027Merlin Posted August 24, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted August 24, 2020 Tony, As Malcolm writes, they carry a most important load, grain, from Leith for delivery to the Distilleries beside The Suburban Line with the last call at Gorgie Yards not too far away from Haymarket Shed. Some wagons made trips out to Kirkcaldy and were in use until 1970. Eric 1
