RMweb Gold trw1089 1,905 Posted October 4, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 4, 2020 Lovely shiny A3s Eric, the Haymarket cleaners must’ve been busy. Cheers Tony
60027Merlin 2,769
Tony, They were under pressure to maintain standards! Eric
60027Merlin 2,769
Gateshead and Heaton locos were daily visitors to the Waverley Station and Haymarket Shed and for something of a change here are a few of their regulars to the city. Haymarket occasionally borrowed them when short of available locos for quick turns to Glasgow Queen Street, Perth and Dundee before returning south again. I remember seeing a fair number at Saughton Junction including Madge Wildfire, Prince Palatine, North Eastern, Manna and Ocean Swell. No doubt there were plenty more but I cannot recall them offhand!
dunwurken 399
Copped them all at one time or another at Craigentinny! Some look a bit cleaner than I remember them but that said we are talking 55 to 65 years ago and my memory may faulty . Lovely photos. Malcolm
60027Merlin 2,769
Malcolm, No doubt that your memory is still OK. I decided to finish them off as per circa 1958/59 with a grubby appearance sporting shades of green when there was still a bit of cleaning rather than the all over caked grey look of a year or so later! 60027Merlin 2,769
Another selection of views of various trains on typical workings in the area. All taken for granted in these far away days.
RMweb Gold trw1089 1,905 Posted November 28, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 28, 2020 Certainly not taken for granted here Eric, I love the mundane. There’s always been too much focus on the glamorous workings, when the lifeblood of the railway was the regular, mundane runs that earned the revenue. Cheers Tony 1 1
60027Merlin 2,769
Something a bit different with 60502 just running in. I started it in May along with an A2/3 and it is taking longer than I anticipated to finish both of them. Too many domestic tasks my wife thought of with all her free time resulting from this Covid19. Hopefully it will not be too long before the A2/3 is completed - then there is the painting!
BrianMac 4
Eric, Thanks for the last batch of photos . Wouldn't it be great to be behind the fence on the embankment with notebook and camera! Brian

60027Merlin 2,769
One of the local lads was out for a walk with his German Shepherd and stopped for a longish tea break, with his camera at the ready, to take some snaps of trains passing by.

Good afternoon Eric A lovely selection of photos and model locomotives, in particular the smaller classes. I do like the lighting effect you have achieved in the photo of A4 60027 Merlin.
