sandshifter Posted July 19, 2010 Share Posted July 19, 2010 This weekend the we opened 'Rails to the Sands' - a semi-permanent 1000 sq ft exhibition in Cleethorpes about seaside miniature railways (7.25 to 24 inch gauge) - with seven locos, assorted rolling stock and exhibits, lots of unusual photos, postcards, ephemera and vintage cine film. It's also a story of the British seaside holiday - making it great fun for all of the family, not just railway enthusiasts! Star exhibit is probably "Blacovesley" - a 15 inch gauge steam-outline survivor from 1909 that is the world's oldest internal combustion loco, or "Lorna Doone" a 1930s 7.25" gauge 4-6-2+T (ex-Mablethorpe), not seen in public for years. Of particular interest to railway modellers is 'Shifting Sands', a seaside miniature railway in O9, on static display. It's free entry if you have a full return ticket for the neighbouring Cleethorpes Coast Light Railway, or £2 for adults and £1 for children. It's the first exhibition by the Miniature Railway Museum Trust - this is the first step towards what will hopefully become a national museum of miniature railways across a number of themes. The exhibition is located within the Meridian Point Craft Centre, adjacent to Lakeside station on the CCLR. Admission is via the Meridian Line Models shop. sandshifter Posted July 20, 2010 Author Share Posted July 20, 2010 Hi Ravenser, burried away in my original post is the fact that we will be open in this form until at least December 2011 - I'm not sure how the out of season opening hours will be structured but it will definately be open at weekends and hopefully weekdays too.
