Arpleymodeller
Looks very good so far Dave, the oil terminal reminds me of the one at Fort William. Regards Lewis
cromptonnut
A nice start but the hill does look quite bright... is that the dyed sawdust? I start with that then, when dry, spray with another coat of diluted PVA and sprinkle on Woodland Scenics fine ground foam in an appropriate colour, then let that dry, then repeat but this time use the Woodland Scenics grass fibres (an old tea strainer is ideal for both these steps) and then allow to dry. If you wish you can also add sprinkles of the purple ground foam to represent heather, on top of that. You might be surprised what a difference that simple procedure can make
scottishlocos
Hi all thanks Arpleymodeller the oil depot is based on the one at Lairg on the Far North Line. its DBS operated but the tanks now go to Inverness on a DRS intermodal then tripped to Lairg by the sleeper 67 however 66's and 37's still sometimes work the train Cromptonnut i think maybe a second layer of the green would have worked this is my first attempt at a layout with greenery sadly no cromptons yet but a WCRC or EWS as they worked in Scotland cannot be ruled out regards Dave
Arpleymodeller
About the oil terminal, earlier when I said Inverness I meant Fort William,Ive just seen a video on YouTube of 37401 shunting at the oil terminal at Fort William and then when I saw your model it reminded me of it. scottishlocos
Hi no probs the same tanks run to Fort William and Lairg from Grangemouth via Mossend although my layout is set on the Far North i will be running west highland trains including aluminium and MOD trains regards Dave

magic_monkey09
i like the Backscene and the choice of stock the Scotman 37 on the beds especially the foliage is a little bright and tropical for scotland though you need more brown and a mixture of dark greens B) the woodlands scenics range tend to be the best for Foliage and scatter materials. scottishlocos
Thanks, I have found that trees and shrubs can be all sorts of colours depending on the season i have just bought some darker shrubs and have more of the tall pine trees still lots to do but its getting there regards Dave
shortliner
Living about a quarter of a mile away from the Far North Line, and knowing the area quite well - If you fancy some Scots Pine to give some variation to your tyrees -the is this http://www.rmweb.co.....php?f=8&t=8600 which may help. There is talk of putting in a plant making chip-board near the site of the Invergordon Smelter which would give you another industry http://www.euroforest.co.uk/index.html http://www.hi-energy...001.Lang-EN.htm
