Plattling webcam

That red, white and blue diesel that was in the sidings last week took a tank train to nearby Deggendorf port (Deggendorf is on the branch line where the little green DMUs and shunters travel). I would have thought it was always the shunters that take the freight along the branch line but not this time.

I never cared too much for the little green DMUs but since looking at them on this Flickr user's page, I really like them. The route is very scenic after they leave Plattling as you can see here

They're fantastic. They're quite thrashy and powerful. When we were there one literally went from engine off to speeding out of the station in 5 seconds, we were amazed, literally just start and go! We did the line to Bayerisch Eisenstein (didn't do the other branch unfortunately), and found that the 650s were quite good through the gradients of the forest.

This is what the other end of the line looks like:

It was a pleasure to travel over the line. At times when you were deep in the forest, there wasn't much to see, but it had a real atmosphere about it.

I have noticed that type of loco a few times in Plattling over the last month etc, very nice place is Ingolstadt spent many a night out there when I use too use the now closed truck-rail ro-ro service at Manching to Brenner pass, Italian / Austrian border.

edit: Austrian not Swiss should I say.

Motorcycle,

As you suggest it is a wagon for carrying a transformer, and will be a heavy duty wagon with many axles as the transformers are very heavy, often into the hundreds of tonnes.

Their main use is where power is taken from the national grid for feeding into the overhead lines. These structures are often fitted with a siding onto which the transformer and it's wagon are parked, before being wired in

Does anyone know what is the white loco that has been in the tank sidings to the right of the picture, please? eg <http://webcam.deg.net/?a=showcam&w=showarchivimage&o=pla&id=201602291500>

There has also been a main line passenger coach in the siding at the end of platforms 2 and 3 for some reason.

While I am asking questions about Plattling, there does not seem to be a platform 7 for some reason. The platform used by the local trains to Regensburg is apparently 8: the one not normally used is 6 and the Deggendorf diesel service goes from 5.

The loco on the right is one of the new 'Vectron' electric locomotives, but no idea as to who it might belong to.

Platform numbers in Germany are not necessarily allocated consecutively, instead, it is the individual lines that are usually given consecutive numbers. So if there is a line which does not serve a platform, then the numbering system may, to British eyes, seem to jump for no obvious reason.

However, my knowledge of Plattling is not good enough to fully explain why there is no platform at Gleis 7 (or as the Americans might term it, track 7)

It could be 193247. Either that or I think it's 8xx (number escapes me), on hire to SETG.

The coach was knocked off the rear of an IC a few days ago - lots of men with torches started looking underneath it, it was then detached and left in the platform. Shortly after a 294 moved it into the siding where it is now.

I've got a feeling the bay at the far end is numbered 7 for some reason, nothing uses it though, only for stabling at night.

Whilst I'm here, I was quite surprised the other day to learn the archive still contains shots from 2011.

That's me, on the left on the centre platform

Thank you both very much for the information. It was thge second time the Vectron had turned up recently.

I worked out that Platform/Gleis 7 was "missing" from the DB arrivals and departures web page <http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/bhftafel.exe/dn>..

1 & 2 (on the left) are used principally by the Munich - Passsau RE service; 3 & 4 are used by the ICE services to/from Vienna and an odd IC service to Passau at 22.09, and by some of the Munich - Passau services  mostly in the odd numbered hours; 5 is used by the Deggendorf and Bayerisch Eisenstein branch trains (DMUs); 6 is not often used; 7 has apparently gone AWOL  and 8 is for the Regensburg - Neumarkt (Oberpf) stopping service. The DB arrivals etc web page calls 8 "8th" for some reason.

Sometimes there are rare locomotives (for Plattling) that go up the branch line to Deggendorf Port (where the little green DMUs go). On Sunday & Monday (3rd & 4th of April) there was a train from Erfurt-Bischleben.

You can see better views from a flickr user taken at Deggendorf Port

Also in the flickr information it is described as "DGS 90968". I assume this is the German version of our codes for freight trains like 6X12 for example. How do German people find this information out? Is the a German version of realtimetrains or freightmaster that they use? I remember there was a website that had some timetable for Plattling freight, http://www.cargonautus.de/Passau.htm but that hasn't been updated in a long time.
