When we were there one literally went from engine off to speeding out of the station in 5 seconds, we were amazed, literally just start and go! We did the line to Bayerisch Eisenstein (didn't do the other branch unfortunately), and found that the 650s were quite good through the gradients of the forest. At times when you were deep in the forest, there wasn't much to see, but it had a real atmosphere about it. Their main use is where power is taken from the national grid for feeding into the overhead lines. While I am asking questions about Plattling, there does not seem to be a platform 7 for some reason. The platform used by the local trains to Regensburg is apparently 8: the one not normally used is 6 and the Deggendorf diesel service goes from 5. Mike at C&M Posted February 29, 2016 Share Posted February 29, 2016 The loco on the right is one of the new 'Vectron' electric locomotives, but no idea as to who it might belong to. Platform numbers in Germany are not necessarily allocated consecutively, instead, it is the individual lines that are usually given consecutive numbers. So if there is a line which does not serve a platform, then the numbering system may, to British eyes, seem to jump for no obvious reason. However, my knowledge of Plattling is not good enough to fully explain why there is no platform at Gleis 7 (or as the Americans might term it, track 7) Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

The coach was knocked off the rear of an IC a few days ago - lots of men with torches started looking underneath it, it was then detached and left in the platform. Shortly after a 294 moved it into the siding where it is now. I've got a feeling the bay at the far end is numbered 7 for some reason, nothing uses it though, only for stabling at night. I worked out that Platform/Gleis 7 was "missing" from the DB arrivals and departures web page <http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/bhftafel.exe/dn>.. 1 & 2 (on the left) are used principally by the Munich - Passsau RE service; 3 & 4 are used by the ICE services to/from Vienna and an odd IC service to Passau at 22.09, and by some of the Munich - Passau services mostly in the odd numbered hours; 5 is used by the Deggendorf and Bayerisch Eisenstein branch trains (DMUs); 6 is not often used; 7 has apparently gone AWOL and 8 is for the Regensburg - Neumarkt (Oberpf) stopping service. Wish I could see more of the elok on the far right edge, the grills look suggestive of an older type of locomotive? Or is it just one of the EMUs?
