Yeah that's be a bit of a trek Tom!

Had a good day today apart from the 08 being its usual temperamental self.

Photographed the real Laira, explored the remains of the Cattewater terminal and briefly glimpsed part of Tavy yard in passing.

Looking forward to tomorrow!

A copy of what I've posted on the exhibition thread:

Got home about 9 despite the traffic on the M5 south of Brizzle. I was aiming for 8 but hey, home safe after dropping Jack home. Thanks to a tip off today, we stopped off and got some shots of Laira from the hill overlooking it.

Thanks everyone who stopped at the layout, despite being visible on the approach to Plymouth, I was surprised at how many people recognised the layouts inspiration. Definitely made it worthwhile for me. I must also thanks to Ian and the team for a cracking show, and the small new addition to the layout!

Finally thanks to Jack for the help and company of the last few days, definitely couldn't have done it alone. Cracking meals in the Wet Wok and Barbican Steakhouse too in the evenings, thoroughly recommended

My 10 year old was very impressed with Embankment road (as was I) and he recognised the basis of the layout immediately.

We were a bit late getting in so only had time for a quick look around but the standard of the layouts was very high indeed making all the rushing around worthwhile.

Hi everyone, the show went well thanks. Royaloak, I'm glad you and your son enjoyed the layout!

Here's a few photos of the layout from the phone, I'll try to get some photos of the real place from Saturday once I've processed the raw files off the camera. Here's a selection of he stuff that could be seen on the layout, the GBRf 66 brings in refurb mk3s between barriers, the 60 is bringing fuel from Fawley and the fitters are getting to work on another HST needing repair

Here's a handful of a fair few photos of the real thing from last weekend, plus a couple from Cornwall on the way to the show. The Cornish stuff is the 9th, Laira stuff the 10th and the overhead views from the 11th on the way out of Plymouth heading home. Hopefully the Laira shots highlight my inspiration both operationally and in the details.

I knew there was something else I meant to add!

Yes, it's episode 5 of The Railway: First Great Western. They did a bogie swap on a power car at Laira and illustrated the side of the depot I have modelled. It's available to watch on demand on the Demand 5 website

You know me and class 60s Alex, any excuse...Depending on the quality of the model when it is released, there may be a Colas livery Ruston engined Brush beast appearing on the layout soon, though I'm 50/50 from the pre production pics I've seen sadly.

Any new updates??

Not yet I'm afraid, work has focused on my other layout recently, hopefully I'll get an update put together soon on that thread

Hi Alex, my other layout should give me plenty of options for class 60 appearances. What better to trip wagons in for repair in the Midlands? Hee hee :jester:

Forget the Colas stuff, I've been running my new Western in just now, at some point I'll have do a shoot of a maroon 'Wizzo' on Laira. It'd just be rude not to

A bizarre twist in the space-time continuum resulted in a strange goings on at Embankment Road last night. I've heard it's a symptom of travelling at 88mph? Anyway, it's November 1963 and the Ford Anglia appears to be one of the fitters current car of choice. Here's proof it really happened!

At first impression, the Dapol Western is one of the best N gauge models in my opinion, I'm really happy with mine despite a few minor issues. The brass centres to the wheels and the lack of grey window surrounds should be easy enough to paint in, but the large holes in the wheels are a bit harder to fix, on the real thing they're quite small. I'm doing a review for DEMU's forthcoming UpDate issue 73, those of you who are members, I'll expand more on my thoughts there.

The mk1s are from my railtour set, and the 08 will get resprayed to FGW livery, so nice though it looks, the 1960s era isn't here to stay, and the Western will get fitted with the plates I have for D1015 along with modern OLE flashes and an orange cantrail stripe. Back now to 2013...

The Western looks great Jo. Good choice on livery as well I'm waiting for the Dapol 33.59. And I would like to get hold of the nse 50 as well if they all look as good as the western then it's going to be worth the wait .

The layout looks cracking as well my cup of tea.
