RMweb Gold Joseph_Pestell Posted November 16, 2012 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 16, 2012 Hi All I have found a few photo that you may or may not like but thought they were worth a look by all, these are just mainly Photos over time that GTD has been set up down at Peter's Unit, and were loco we were either just putting on to take photos of or Loco that were at shows over the last 2 or so years... Any Question for Peter are most Welcome.... Jamie I wonder why no-one (especially one of the Sheffield shops) has commissioned a Class 13 based on one of the new-generation 08s?
7APT7
I wonder why no-one (especially one of the Sheffield shops) has commissioned a Class 13 based on one of the new-generation 08s? Hi Mate, They were bought a couple of years back now and were old Hornby or even Tri-ang chassis and body adapted ones, but I have since bough 2 Bachmann adapted ones and they look excellent, I will have a look back in my photo collection I will find them and put them on, so keep watching as Peter and I have loads of photos of loco, wagons and coaches that we have put on just to take photographs off, as at show it as attended Peter runs most of his stock as its normally out of my era, but I do still collect the odd few that I like to see, but nowhere as much as Peter's collection of loco's for this layout... Thanks for your Question, Bachmann have already done a Class 13 in BR Black with Crest, I think so they only need to release the that as no cab so to speak... trains12
Hi All Just a few comments on Jamie's posts the buildings on GTD took around 1200 hours for all , The main hopper building was about 300 hours but all of this time was over a period of 2-3 years. The research alone took many hours measuring brick sizes on photos then from that compilling overall dimensions and scale drawing before any work was done on the actual construction side. There had to be a few alterations to some of the buildings, mainly the lime kilns, to accommodate on the space on the layout. Jamie Bachmann have not produced a Class 13 loco I think it was either a Class 8 or 9 in Black. The 13 is the Tinsley Twin or also known as the cow and calf which are the models you have. It would be great if they did one, but it would have a limited market I think. Peter

7APT7
Hi All... People tend to ask about the amount of research that goes into the creation of GTD Layout... I was up Peter's today and was looking at all his own Research Photos of the real place, which I have never been as I'm more the Midlands area of growing up, so I saw the Layout first and then when Peter showed me the Photo's it was like the Layout came first and you can relate so much to the Photo's, hopefully Peter will put the odd one or two real photo's and you will be dumb struck as Peter's gets it so right, ok the actual place is probably spread over 2 Miles and the building isn’t as close as we see it on the layout, and when making a layout based on somewhere you have to condense it down to fit within the size you have to play with on the base boards so the building are real or because of limitations with the size of the building, Peter as had to comprise by perhaps some building being joined in some way to others on the Layout just to fit it all in the space he has got to play with, but without a doubt, if he show you photo's you don’t have to look hard to see what part of the building he is referring to on the Layout. He normally at exhibition that I have been to with him, he as 40+ Photo's in a Photo Album at the end of the layout that you can look through and when you see the photo and the Layout version, it is superb... Peter can confirm most of the above as he was know the place better than I ever will.... Below is an example of what I mean as you will see you have no difficulty in noticing which build is what on the layout when you compare the Real Photo’s that Peter had taken for reference material before he even started to build any part of it... Perhaps Peter can give you more information or answer any Questions that you may need answering yourself... Shame because Peter pulls his own work apart when the likes of most of us, wouldn’t think twice on bits that he couldn’t fit in and again all because of the extra 20ft of board needed to show it to full scale... I take my hat off to Peter's modelling... I have leant so much just from watching and I have the head knowledge due to Peter, I just need to make the modelling as good as Peter.... like that will ever happen, if I could be half as good I would be happy... time will see when I start my Layout which is in the pipeline... 7APT7
HiAll Several threads back I listed some Photos of the Class 13 which I said at the time were made up from old Triang Hornby as you could probably see, I then invested in buying better Class 13 which I had made Special, So here they are... Some History on the Class 13's The British Rail (BR) Class 13 were created in 1965 because of the need to provide more powerful shunters for the Tinsley Marshalling Yard. This was achieved by permanently coupling together two Class 08 shunter’s as a 'master and slave' (alternatively 'cow and calf') units, the latter with its cab removed. Both units were ballasted to improve traction. Initially the units were coupled cab-to-cab but it was found more practical to couple master nose to slave cab. A larger, rigid locomotive could not be used because of the risk of grounding on the marshalling yard hump Threepairs were formed as follows... Master unit D4190 and Slave unit D4189 to form D4501, later 13001 Master unit D4187 and Slave unit D3697 to form D4502, later 13002 Master unit D4188 and Slave unit D3698 to form D4500, later 13003 Withthe end of hump shunting at Tinsley the class became obsolete. The unique qualities of the locomotives were not required elsewhere and so withdrawal was inevitable; 13002 was withdrawn in 1983, with the remaining two locomotives going with the closure of Tinsley hump in 1985 Noneof this unusual class survives today... 13001 was scrapped at BREL Swindon Works in May 1985 13002 was scrapped at BREL Swindon Works in October 1983 13003 was scrapped at BREL Doncaster Works in September 1986 Hope you enjoy them; my model have been put on Bachmann Chassis and Bodies No.13 003 Master and Slave No.13 004, They were taken on GTD at a Local Show Peter has put on for Members...
