A few days ago 70006 failed in spectacular fashion (griding gears, sparks and a puff of smoke) while pulling its train of MJAs. It has donated some of its gears while underinspection. Today the loco was seen on the back road of the TMD with enginers looking over it.

Must be serious as they appear to have the gas-axe ready....

Have been gradually working through stock and changing out the standard couplers where possible.

The HTA shown above have had Hunt Coupling spring socket close couplers added, they have been brought a bit closer. The Steel wagaons above have a combination of Hunt Coupling NEM close couplers, short couplers (non working knuckle couplers as supplied in bits bags) and standard couplers, again they have been brought closer with buffers almost touching. I have left the standard coupling on the end wagons so that diferent locos can be used to pull wagons.

Passenger stock definatly benefit from Hunt Coupling and non working knuckle couplers. My Arriva 67,DVT and passeneger stock are now touching on straight sections, NSE class 101 has knuckle couplers and again touching passeneger corridors. Some NSE stock has been changed over:

There are definatly some benefits to Hunt couplers, non working knuckle ones and standard ones. Depends on if wagons are shunted or travel in blocks, and whether locos are dedicated to certain stock.

Decided I wanted a dead tree. so I took one flat packed plastic tree, bent it, cut off some branches and added twigs to arrive at this.

then covered in plaster and when dried cut into it to make a bark effect

Once dry and happy with the shape and effect; painted it in a burnt umber wash, applied various powders and other colours. to arrive at this.

Fairly pleased with the look  of a dead defoliated tree. Now to plant it.

Some figures arrived from Finescalefigures.com. Think they will challenge my painting skills! When you look really close to them they have lovely little details.
