RMweb Gold Popular Post grandadbob Posted August 23, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted August 23, 2019 Domestic tasks done. Shopping shopped. (Another dozen bottles of red added to the cellar) Skip and sleepers for the garden have been delivered. Shed visited. GDB has c#cked it up (again) and the flap and final boards will have to be rebuilt. Not happy so am now making inroads into a bottle of red plonk. I think I will give up railway modelling muddling mangling and convert The Shed into a pub! 1 7

RMweb Gold Popular Post grandadbob Posted August 23, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted August 23, 2019 My parents were publicans and I spent my early years in pubs (and of course many of my later years. ) I have worked behind bars and did at one time consider becoming a publican. To have my own little pub where only those I invite can visit does almost seem like Nirvana. 11 4

Mine can do that but it is easier just to plug an old iPod in. The car audio seems to understand iPods. If instead of an iPod you just want to use a usb stick the car has a Gracenote library so puts all the track names up. However Aditi and I just chat most of the time. There's not lot of room in my car so I use a "thumb-drive" (USB stick). I could also get my tunes off my foen through Bluetooth but I can't be bothered setting it up. I did have a Golf that had one of those CD players in the trunk (boot, if you must - mind you, does a hatchback really have a boot?) but I found it to be more trouble than it was worth. It came "free'" with the GTi - it wasn't listed as an installed option on the window sticker and I didn't realize it was there for some time. The thumb-drive or foen options do have the advantage that if some evil little scroat (bring back the birch!) nicks your car they don't get your CDs too. 15 1

tigerburnie
Evening, quite a busy sort of day, bit of muddling, a lot of the "G" word, a lot of consuming products from the garden, mostly sweet lol, spuds dug, sweetcorn eaten raw straight off the plant followed by raspberries and some rather tasty French strawberries. Had a go at videoing the layout, filmed and looked quite good on the camera, transferred to youtube and they look grim quality, posted them on my thread for now, but if I can get the hang of it, I'll replace them later. SWMBO is not much better, but at least her appetite has picked up a bit and her voice has come back, which I think is a good thing...…………………………...lol 14

Popular Post Debs.
It's not often I cheer for a big corporation, but today - finally - some action on electric vehicle charging by one of the major retail players; Tesco, who promised a major investment in new free-to-use app-based "Pod Point" outlets at many of its stores, now rolling out nationwide......These, at my nearest branch have only taken a matter of days to install and will be commissioned tomorrow. These are totally free to use for the duration of your visit to shop or at the cafe for lunch etc......I don't think you'd get away with asking for free petrol at the forecourt if you haven't got an E.V, though. Bit worried by the signage, it looks like they think you pick up current through the roof, like a trolley bus. RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted August 23, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 23, 2019 Evening all from Estuary-Land. Made a start on clearing out the storage box that sits on the patio. I'd been using it for storing things such as tiles and paint and other decorating materials. These are now going to be consigned to the garage with some other stuff from the garden shed. Things such as the mower and gardening tools will then be placed in the storage box. I did make a start this afternoon but gave up because of the heat. 10
RMweb Gold Popular Post Tony_S Posted August 23, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted August 23, 2019 (edited) I have finished the packing. It was finished some time ago but carrying the cases down and putting the special bag tags on was the final flourish. Aditi was very pleased when I asked what shoes she was going to wear if it was raining while we were away so another pair got added. As I finished, I thought I would try and memorise a few of the routes around the ship as it is a bit different to other Cunard and similar large P&0 ships. Apparently one must not call it a cruise ship, it is an ocean liner. It also has gas turbines in addition to diesels. Our dining room is about as far away as possible from our cabin but we can amble slowly via a bar or two if necessary. Aditi likes to march around the promenade deck on cruises but I usually give up after a couple of laps. Tomorrow we spend the night in Southampton, I really don’t like the idea of travelling down on the day of sailing. We got stuck in a huge traffic jam outside Southampton the first time we went from there. People now tell me about terrible journeys and it turns out they only live a few miles from Southampton. Other people drive down from Scotland overnight and have no delays. Just random chance I suppose. RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted August 23, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 23, 2019 (edited) Debs, our local Tesco's is also fitted out with the charging points. As my car is petrol I didn't have a good look at them but drivers of none electric cars don't seem to be parking in the bays very often. I was looking at getting a hybrid or an electric car and second hand ones are surprisingly cheap, until you get to the bit that says 'New batteries required.' I enquired: "To occupy a bay without infringement, one must be plugged-in and on charge".......they'll have to, these bays are right next to the stores front entrance, they'll be full of lazy infernal combusters if it's not Policed in some way. The disabled bays at that store have to be patrolled for selfish non blue-badge holders in the same way too......some aspects of modern life I fear. 13 7

The new generation Korean (Hyundai and Kia) Electric and Plug-in hybrid new vehicles have very long warranties on both the car (5yr/7yr) and the battery (8yr), Phil.....that's what convinced me to jump ship and go with an E.V. 3 1
