From chats at the moment it seems that tests for Covid 19 for NHS staff are starting to happen. Midlands BiL hasn’t had one as he is working from home being vulnerable but others in the practice had tests at a drive through centre. One manager and one GP tested positive, neither showing symptoms on the day of the test. SiL who’s has been seeing the possible viral patients hadn’t had a test yet. GP nephew in Sussex is isolating as his girlfriend had symptoms. They are waiting for what they called the “swabulance” to arrive for a test, hopefully so they can return to work.

Evenin' each,

Just heard from one of my friends that at our local hospital where his wife and daughter work some thieving  bast@rds* have nicked 3 cases of PPE supplies. Daughter is a junior?1st year? nurse working on the CV ward supposed to be on 12 hour shifts but doing at least 14 and absolutely shattered after each shift. Known her since she was a toddler and is one of the loveliest kids I know.

Also managed to get in touch with one of my oldest friends who spends half the year in Spain and the other half here. He  lives in a caravan over here on a farm in Surrey and managed to get home a couple of weeks ago (with a considerable amount  of difficulty) He's currently self isolating with a couple of ponies and several cows!

 

*I know violence isn't always the answer but I could quite cheerfully seriously damage these ar$eholes.

There are some very sick people around, and not necessarily with CV-19.  Likewise it is scammers etc who have started to use CV in their latest cons.  The lowest of the low.

There was a report in the papers a couple of days ago about someone who got caught stealing PPE equipment. He's looking at a custodial sentence but sadly the PPE equipment he stole is possibly contaminated and now rendered useless.

So which is it?  To wear or not to wear, having been SI for more than two weeks now, we have all heard the pros and cons.  I wouldn't know where to get the masks as evidently they are in short supply and more useful to first responders anyway.  Therefore as I appear not to have the CV, it is better used elsewhere where medical staff are crying out for them

Tend to agree but whilst in my last year in high school back home, our geography class featured this area of the PNW so I had a fair idea of what went on here, which stood me in good stead.  What I didn't expect was the tribal influence with names that were hard to pronounce or spell even but after the Spanish influence of our time in California, it didn't take that long to get the idea here either.

Indeed, the Mrs (and myself assigned to cutting material) are making some along with several of her friends. We already have them for the family and now making them to drop off at the local hospital.

In spite of what the orange idiot decides personally, wearing them (so long as NOT using those more suited to medical staff and hording them inappropriately) is better than NOT wearing them, IMHO.

Then again if "HE" choses not to wear one, we can only hope for the best outcome

Late afternoon...

 

Yesterday an enjoyable happy hour via Zoom with friends. Grocery delivery with all we needed - that's it.

 

Today more online "fun" with my flight simulations friends.

Today was one of the two "cross-the-pond" events that occur each year, this one westbound from Europe to the US. A staggering 3,000+ people online, 1,000 more than last weekends record!

 

Mrs currently Zooming (another new verb to add to the dictionary??) with a friend, and later we will probably start on another puzzle.

 

Still Minnesota cold here at -6 first thing, but SUNNY so expecting to reach a high of 8 with luck.

 

Found out today out friend in Iowa is much improved and has been home for two days now, though still isolating from his wife. That's some good news at least in all this.

The NHS calls sellotape 'self adhesive polypropylene tape' - or it did in my day.  Took hours to find it in the stores catalogue.  Central stores in Normanton have a lot to answer for.

 

Had a foul night last night so off to my bed.

Evening all,

 

Much domestic engineering has occurred today.  SWMBO has been outside planting things which grow while I have been mostly inside cleaning up the dust and wiping the spills and splashes of everyday life.  I also enjoyed the first beer-in-the-garden of the year sitting out the front on the (shared) lawn well away from the paths but in full sun.  And cheerfully exchanging greetings from a suitable distance with neighbours as they came and went.  

 

So probably a good day by present standards and concluded with an evening stroll up to the Green and back during which we saw more Deliveroo mopeds than walkers or cars.  

 

And so to bed and looking forward to a Sun Day when it should be possible to sit in the warmth on the terrace from breakfast until dinnertime if we so choose.  "Stay home" does not mean "Stay indoors" when one has any sort of private outdoor area to make use of.  

 

Sleep well.

This reminds me of a story told by my mother. She was at school in 1930 something. The girls had to take in some macaroni for the cookery lesson. My grandmother refused to buy “foreign stuff”. The teacher made Mum buy some and said your family are sure to enjoy the macaroni cheese. They all refused it and put it out on the lawn for the birds. Next doors dog jumped over and started to eat it and was sick. The teacher asked Mum had the family enjoyed and Mum said even the neighbours dog hadn’t liked it. So the teacher caned Mum for being rude, splitting her palm open. Grandma went up to the school and threatened extreme violence if “our Margaret” was  ever again punished for telling the truth. 
I never had macaroni cheese until I left home...
