Probably defrosting it properly then cooking it to the required temperature - at least 70C I think.

The other problem is cross-contamination on surfaces, hands and utensils before it's cooked. Judging from a lot of the nonsense that's flying around here re. the virus I suspect there's a common misconception that "if you can't see it, it can't hurt you".

Evening all from Estuary-Land. As was said it will probably never be confirmed as to whether or not our human ancestors were semi-aquatic. But DNA analysis is providing some surprising details about our forebears. This is interesting. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cheddar_Man  Apparently he had curley hair and dark skin, and blue eyes. The Neanderthals were not the only race of humans occupying Eurasia when the Cro-Magnon came out of Africa, in fact using DNA it has been established that there was  up to six different species living at the same time, the most significant were the Denisovans who were closely related to and interbred with the Neanderthals. Sapiens also interbred with these other species resulting in one in eight modern humans having Neanderthal DNA. There is naturally many theories as to why these other human species disappeared over a very short period of time , the most likely IMHO is that Sapiens carried with them new diseases that the other species had not experienced and therefore had no resistance to.

EDIT A bit more information here.

It is a great pity that anyone should be made to feel that way.

As you say, since the first days of RMweb, ERs has been a friendly, welcoming and supportive place, often laced with a touch of light banter and humour too.   Now that you have, for good reason, chosen  to ignore one aspect of it I hope that you can come to enjoy and trust it as you once did.

May I echo those sentiments?  And in doing so I hope I am not the one to have caused any offence.

Don't worry it isn't you as Natalie said she has blocked the person concerned so if you were the one you wouldn't be able to see her post.

We got a call from a Jeremiah Johnson yesterday. He must have got my name from the local health department as I'm (supposed to be) in charge of our community water supply. Jeremiah works for a diving company and he wanted to know if we had large water storage tanks that needed cleaning. I'd never heard of such a thing but I suppose it makes sense.

I had to disappoint him as we only have five air filled pressure tanks to prevent the well pump from cycling too often and it would be impossible to get into them.

I used to drive from Basildon to Coventry and Long Eaton for F1 Stock Car meetings. !

I would guess you were at the pit bend at Long Eaton - watching the trail of light engines to/from Toton yard......

The other track to watch a railway from was Belle Vue - the Scenic Railway at the fun fair!

Good evening everyone

The weather improved significantly by dinner time quite with the sun coming out and warming the place up. Some progress has been made on the bases of the limit switches and they are now completely finished. Hopefully tomorrow I’ll be able to fit them to the main base plate and wire them all up.

I liked Rick’s idea about your favourite 10 albums and I’ve been giving it some serious thought, but try as I may, I’ve been unable to narrow it down to just 10, the best I could do was 15. These are listed below, but are in no particular order.

Fire And Water - Free

Souvenirs - Dan Fogelberg

Fog On The Tyne - Lindisfarne

Pipedream - Alan Hull

Desperado - The Eagles

Stampede - The Doobie Brothers

Nether Lands - Dan Fogelberg

Wish You Were Here - Pink Floyd

Takin’ It To The Streets - The Doobie Brothers

But Seriously Folks -  Joe Walsh

Hotel California - The Eagles

Silk Degrees - Boz Scaggs

Year Of The Cat - Al Stewart

Hounds If Love - Kate Bush

Muddy Water Blues - Paul Rodgers

Some of the above will no doubt be familiar to some, but there’ll be some that will be unknown to most. It’s a bit of a broad spectrum of music but I never tire of listening to any of the above, some of which are almost 50 years old!

Goodnight all

I can safely say I've not heard of any of these, which just goes to show what a diverse bunch we are:D

Logarithms:

I think the teaching of logarithms has increasingly declined since electronic calculators replaced slide rules. Obviously an intrinsic understanding of logarithms was essential with the use of slide rules. While my cohort did not learn to use slide rules, we were however extensively drilled in log and trig tables. I would be very surprised if contemporary high schoolers were instructed in the use of log and trig tables any more.

I suspect the only people who have any basis in logarithms these days would be those taking classes with a very strong STEM focus.

Log scales are a wonderful thing. Manys the time when the experimental data looks 'wrong', the answer is to "put it on a log scale".

I don't know if everybody is aware, but typing a mathematical expression into Google Chrome will produce the result and pop up a calculator.

Type "12x25.4=" or "sin 30"

Something similar results with unit conversions using expressions like "75f to c" or "150lb to kg"

I find hard it believe that you have not heard of Pink Floyd! :biggrin_mini:

Edit: I do not care for the vast majority of what was listed. Only Hotel California (the song, not the album) would make my play list. In fact, just before the lockdown, I found that single along with three other singles, one of which I had been looking for for more than forty years; the others about thirty years or so' All in one place and in superb playing condition! :jester:

Golf was golfed today.

The day was rounded off with a Zoom quiz with a couple of other families. All three couples married within the same year. We all met each other through the same service organisation (Rotaract - not Rotary) and have stayed friends ever since.

Another Rotaracter! I was prescribed membership by my then GP, a Rotarian) and archived District Vice Chairman status.

When Ontario had a "socialist" government, the finance minister was nicknamed "Pink Floyd" because his name was Floyd something. But I don't think that's who you're referring to.
