I don't know what's happened but the adverts have gone missing for me tonight. 

I have been busy on a tiny radar,  while watching an old "grand designs" on Skye. Though it's somewhat younger than the 45 years since I went across the island on the school bus. 

I was looking at the scenery rather than the house,  and I'm happy with what I've built. 

 

As for the tiny radar as you can see I've started to skin the dish.

 

Oh the adverts are Back,  Amazon toys for your pet...  BEN!!!!  what have you been looking at!!!

Today, the 3 of us agreed that, no matter what, we'd have a 1/2 hour away from the office; Platform 1 at Ford station has never been such a welcoming place to be! This was one heck of an indulgence, being only the third time since March 23 we've had a 'planned' break! Normally, it takes an average of 4 'phone calls to eat a £1 pot of fruit in the meal deal during our working "lunch"! We do relish the calms between the storms, though!

His Lordship of the Feline Variety is abed and harrumphing that I am not likewise.  I had better rectify that in order to keep the peace.

My back door is about 350 feet from the Norfolk Southern's "R" line (Charlotte, NC to Columbia, SC) and I have not noticed much, if any, reduction in service. Some days have more trains, some days fewer, but it has been that way since I moved here. Note that I can not see the trains due to some trees and I like the trees more than the trains so they stay. A wireless remote video camera system is being thought about, though. The tree line:

Just back in after tonight’s 10.00pm walk.  It was again good to see bats all over the place.  Tonight I walked down to the beach with a large strong plastic bag, in order to harvest seaweed to use on the garden.  As there is a small beck flowing into the sea there, I also managed to wash some of the salt out of the seaweed.  However, I got my feet a bit wet, so I may use wellies in future.

 

It was finally warm enough to dispense with a fleece today.  Lots of weeding done, more pea seeds planted.  More of the same planned for tomorrow.

The other problem is EMP guns don't work for sh!t

 

Unless you are very close to the target you need something like a small nuclear explosion or a serious lighting bolt to do much damage. The other problem is the magnetic field is not very directional so you tend to get your own back. One of Q's microwavey things could be quite effective but they are a bit on the large side.

Evening all from Estuary-Land. I got the new scales set up this morning, and since I last weighed myself I've put on 3 pounds. It can also give my BMI and a few other features when I get it set up properly. Its not a spring balance scale but works by passing a very small electric current through your body but it seems to be accurate.

 "Fliegerabwehrkanonen" from which we get "flak", and still used today as in "I caught a lot of flak over that report that I turned in!". Amazing how some things manage to catch on while other do not.

 

 I really suspect that little of the Vietnam war-slang will stick around after the remaining Vietnam vets are gone. Several reasons for that, I suppose:

1> The war was very unpopular

2>  The total military personnel involved was quite small compared to WW2 personnel

3> The term "flak" was (probably) used on both sides; it may have originated with Germans and been picked up by the Allies initially as a convenient abbreviation

4> More reasons but my mind is blank at the moment

 

Anyway, my favorite "put-together" German word:

A German friend of mine say that it means "Floor sanding machine rental place".

Hmm, a character count:

English = 34

German = 32

No comment!

 

Edit: I actually know how to pronounce that word thanks to my friend.

Busy day at work,should only have worked morning but ended up there all day and will have to work all day Thursday on my own. Don’t mind the work it’s more a confidence issue, I like there to be two pharmacists on when I’m working. Ruddy Corona virus  as Chrisf would say.

Good evening everyone

 

Once again the weather has been kind to me today, it stayed quite dull, but warm, for most of the day, the sun finally showing itself late in the afternoon, after I’d packed up. With it being quite dull it meant that the paint wasn’t drying too quickly, I managed to get 2 coats applied and a nice finish was achieved. Whilst waiting to apply the first coat to dry, I taped a ‘Wet Paint on door frame’ notice to the bottom of our letter box, left the door slightly ajar, but partially with the security chain on so that it wouldn’t blow open. A short while later, the postie (not our usual one) arrived and instead of using the letter box, proceeded to push the post through the gap between the freshly painted door frame and the door, FFS!!!! Luckily I think the paint was almost dry at that point and no damage was done to it.

 

Below is a photo of the bridge (again made from offcuts and left over timber) and step ladders set I use to get access to the fan light. 

 

There will be no painting done tomorrow, I should have been seeing my oncologist at ‘The Christie’ to get the results of last week’s blood test. However, my appointment has changed to a phone call, which will be sometime in the morning, so I’ll need to be ready to answer the phone and standing on a step ladder is probably not the best place to be. Once that’s done, I’ll head off to the butchers and the head for the Trafford Centre to get what I couldn’t get this evening.
