The problem with salary caps is there are always ways round it,  back when the First division Was The top division and they had salary caps,  the top players received " sock money",  after a match they'd go back to the dressing room and find their socks bulging with cash.  I believe all the american sports with salary caps have had modern versions come to light. 

 

It's strange I don't remember the Cairngorm disaster, I was living just 40 miles away in inverness, and some of the boys in the school hostel lived about ten miles from the site. 

 

I note the article says the official highest wind speed was recorded nearby at 176 mph.  However I know at Saxa Vord  in  the Shetlands in 1961,  197 mph was recorded just before the anemometer and the  type 80 radar aerial weighing several tons blew away and landed on the grass quite a few feet away.. 

 

On most sites the Type 80 was replaced by the Type 84, of which I have now skinned the outer of the tiny RDF aerial.  The next job is to cut the top and bottom of the dish to the correct shape before joining the two with the radar reflector.

Evening all from Estuary-Land. I've been using the computer for most of the evening without any problems so far and no sign of it even getting warm. The computer shop guy said I wasn't to use a vacuum on it as it could cause other problems but he recommended raising the back of the computer to allow air to circulate which I've done. Very sorry to hear your sad news Neil, offering condolences never seems to be enough.

I don’t need the job, but do enjoy the challenge. I’d rather spend my day railway modelling but think SWMBO would have other ideas. 
Seriously though, with the business I’ve ‘painted myself into a corner’, it would be difficult to ‘sell up’ and get ‘good’ price at the moment. A couple of years ago it became apparent that we would have to find larger premises and last year we made a purchase. However to get the building we wanted we had to buy two others that came in the lot. The building we need needs quite a bit of work doing to it to make it suitable for us to move into. Really we need to move, get settled in and then re-assess the situation. 
Usually I only do the paperwork for the business so keep out of the firing line and that suits everyone. Manager is happy being in charge, staff happy in their work (I like to think they work hard and I pay them accordingly), I get a bit of mental stimulation and I don’t have to worry about the bills. 

I do think over the last couple of months my attitude has changed.

sorry to go on, I seem to have verbal diarrhoea tonight.

I have seen an awful lot of poorly equipped people in the Lakes, but the most memorable episode was climbing Snowdon, in North Wales.  We overtook a party of people, two of whom were wearing flip-flops, and another one was wearing open toed sandals.  It was a nice warm day, until we reached the ridge near the railway, when a biting cold wind hit us.  We just layered up, but other people had no extra layers, and were just about suffering frostbite in the few hundred metres from there to the top.

The gentleman (sadly no longer with us) who got me into rugby training had his own version:

10pm walk done, more seaweed gathered from the beach.  It was really pleasant out again at that time, with the only people I met being residents in the lane.

I did use the hosepipe as the water butts are nearly empty. I’m sure I read somewhere that we’d had the wettest February on record, but may have dreamt it.

Good evening everyone 

 

Another glorious day here in the northwest of England, the temperature was somewhere in the region of 25C, but it felt a lot hotter than that. I mentioned earlier, the front door frame is now complete, I’ll leave it a few days to harden off fully then I’ll tackle the small amount of paint that has found its way on to the lead of the fan light, but there isn’t much. I’ll also give the glass a good clean using an old tooth brush to get in the small corners of the lead. 

 

After muggertea No2, I took all the bits for the arbour into the back garden and assembled it completely, this is the first time that ALL the bits have been on. The paint I bought for it yesterday wasn’t quite the colour we were expecting, it was darker and more grey than expected. So I decided to mix 2 small amounts of the blue and some white (both the same brand) and showed it to Sheila, who was very pleased with this new shade. So I rummaged round in the cellar and found a larger empty paint tin. I then poured the full tin of blue paint into it, refilled the empty tin with white paint, added that to the blue in the large tin and mixed the new colour. Once I’d finished mixing the paint I started on the inside, but I broke off halfway through for dinner. 

 

After dinner painting continued and so far the inside is completely done and both ends and the front is too, I’ve only the back to do. I’ve decided to continue with this over the weekend to get it finished. I’ll then spend a couple of midweek working on the turntable.

Thank you to all who gave some suggestions.

Having looked them up, I do believe it may be the broccoli.  It was the yellow flowers that did it since nextdoor's plants bolted and produced hundreds of them last year.  Quite a show!

I have a few coming up so looking forward to seeing how well they do.  Not what I was planning in this part of the garden, but since they are there, I might as well leave them!

It ain't half hot and supposed to be even hotter tomorrow. Still, by Arizona standards it's just warm. No cloud cover at the moment so it should cool down quite quickly tonight.

 

I'm not sure what the collective noun for lawnmowers is but "cacophony" seems appropriate at the moment. People complain about too many rules but if they were more considerate a lot of them would  not be necessary.

We had a heavy enough shower that the crabapple that was in full flower yesterday is now solid green.

A man was invited over to quote on re-doing the driveway. Quote was accepted by SWMBO.

Tried a few places to find replacement electric fireplaces. None suitable in stock; any further action deferred by item 2) above.

No significant muddling managed.

I think the annoyance of Hattons' Class 66 has kept me awake from waking to change the little guy. I usually change, the wife usually feeds while I sleep.
