It's raining, the garden has needed it so I'm not complaining. Having said that, it's now stopped and the sun is shining! A day in the workshop beckons and hopefully by the end of the day I'll have built and tested the latest circuit board.

Good moaning from a still warm Limousin. The wet seems to have stayed away overnight but it is a tad cooler.  Later this morning I will set off home once I've drunk my coffee and looked at a door that won't stay shut for our hostess Margaret.  She was at school with Beth but was widowed a year after moving out here. Beth is staying on for a few days so my journey home will be broken by some trainspotting.

Just got home and found that the above message hadn't posted. A very pleasant drive home with REM Automatic to the peopke on mych if the time. I did a bit if shopping in Ruffec and ate some lunch on the station. What should come past but the lowest numbered class 27000 that I need. Now back home, shutters opened and peace and quiet.

I found an easier way! When I had bought my house in 2013, I soon realised it needed rewiring, replumbing and reglazing.

 

All of my windows and doors have Venetian Blinds fitted inside the double glazing! I usually keep the blinds fully displayed but at an adequate angle to let light through.

So when I lived up that way I owned a Ford Escort with about 15k on the clock. Took it in there for a service and it got as far as the nearest roundabout before conking out. Never worked properly again after they touched it. 

Like many garages they relied totally on a computer to say if a car was working. No matter the car wouldn't get above 5mph after they'd worked on it; their computer knew better.

Never bought another Ford and never will again. I'm guessing from your post that 25 years on they haven't improved a lot!

HI Andy nothing wrong with Ford Cars its the badly run dealership we have in this area, the one I used in Essex this week to say excellent is an understatement.

 

Think  Wancur Ford @ Guildford don't know how to return a call same for Bracknell and Farnborough, Wokingham are better but want to rip you off on the trade-ins my car was

100% showroom condition and the still only offered 1K under the Glasses guide, Basingstoke are a gem they leave you in the carpark waiting for a salesman to come free 

after 15 minutes I went in to the showroom and asked what is going on to be told the man I needed to see had just driven out of the carpark I said couldn't any of you t0ssers

have told me he was on his way home !!!! red faces all round and the other customers were all embarrassed so yes that company are a JOKE.

Tiling proceeded at a good pace today nearly finished so a much needed break to give my hands a chance to recover has been taken I need to go to Argos later for some

more accessories for the home and car.

I bought a smart watch last month it finally turned up and I started to set the thing up as usual electrickery and me are not compatible so I will have to ask a daughter to

intervene maybe one day things will work without the intervention of others.

Afternoon All

 

Been AWOL as have had both Laptop problems, and also a lack of computer mojo (including RMWeb) and just no end of jobs.  But enough of that, and instead, the most fond of generic greetings, and a hope that all are well, and not ailing too much.  Many pages skipped, with no prospect of catching up, so if there is anything that I need to know, can somebody please PM me, so that I am up to speed.

 

So what has been going on - not a great deal at all I'm afraid, other than carpet washing, bookwork, and spending more modelling tokens on things such as printer cartridges - wow, can HP price up, and I'm never sure what brands of clone will work properly, as in the past I've been stung with buying refilled cartridges which just didn't work.

 

Tomorrow, I will be restringing the Two Ducks guitar, the £500 instrument which I obtained in the antiques centre for £175 less 10% trade discount, as I really don't like the sound with custom light strings, so I've bought some HD lights instead.  Then I will also be putting some guitar hangers up on the wall, as they look a lot neater than the way that they're up - I've got six to hang, so it should be fun, as they're all on solid walls.

Ford cars, hmm,  I can't really blame Ford on the unreliablity of the fords I owned 40+ years ago,  they were ancient rust buckets when I bought them.. 

 

When I worked for GEC they had Ford Pool cars,  originally Sierras which weren't to bad, but to save money they switched to non turbo diesel  escort estates. They were so gutless and slow, the overtime bill went up and they started complaining about that.. So they insisted we stay overnight and come back in company time,  then of course the hotel bills went up and they complained about that..

 

 

The work today was drilling the holes in the keel ballast weight,  the first 4 drilled halfway through  the fifth, the drill bit broke inside..

I drilled through from the other side,  and using a bit of spare keel bolt hammered the broken bit,  it just poked out when it jammed.. Totally..

Eventually I had to drill round the original hole,  chisel between the holes,  then turn it over yet again. To finally hammer it out. 

 

I had to roll the152kg lump,  of ballast weight over many times, , it's got aerofoil sides a flat top and a curved bottom. It really did not want to turn over,  my left elbow is really complaining at the efforts. 

It took about a half hour to drill each hole... And 2.5 hours to dig out the broken bit. 

 

I've just watched an old episode of antiques roadshow,  from Cromer,  it had a member of the MRC on it..

I read that some years ago although some of the wording may have been a little different.

Note: I just had to look that up. However, it will probably not go on my Favorite Words List of which bloviate is leading the pack now. BTW, bloviate is almost onomatopoeic.

Makes me think of Tintinnabulation.

Had some real howler crapbox Fords in the distant past, but in more recent times got good service from a Focus TDCi, and liked the B Max that replaced it as a car except it was a 1.4 and totally gutless.  Mistake purchase.  My foot injury intervened and now means I can't drive a manual car far as depressing the clutch is really painful so it got px'd for a Hyundai i30 auto.  I would have had an auto B Max until I googled them -  oh dear - the Getrag Powershift box is a nightmare.  Look up John Cadogan's comments on Youtoob for a laugh.

Luckily I don’t have to attend, so I’ll have loads of time to do nothing in silence. One of the cats has crawled into the dog’s crate, and refuses to leave now, we may have to evict him at some point. Hot and overcast outside, with a wind that should only be allowed to blow into a blast furnace. Hopefully the globe valve and flywheel will arrive today, if they don’t then I might ring Stuart models. Nothing has been done on the Scotchman, I need to get some brass for the firebox. Well now I’m off to make a grilled cheese, the one below is one I forged earlier. Moan finished.

I would think more like out of a blast furnace.

 

The dog might just handle that chore for you. Or kitty will leave on its own accord when either food or litter box calls.

Wingnut and "trains":

Note the the D. C. Central's* service was abandoned and the rails have been lifted. I am a two-railer but wanted to run some trains without a lot of bother so the Allas track was put down; it lasted about three years. If there is to be any third rail on my layout, it will be either about twelve inches outside and about six inches above the running rails (like most subways) or about eighteen feet above the center of the track (like most trolley lines).

 

Edit: the inches and feet are scale inches and feet.

Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Just eaten dinner, toad in the hole, delicious. Earlier the garden wheelie bin went for a walk despite the bricks holding it down. Duly recovered and placed in a corner out of the wind. Only slight problem is that the corner in question is designated for the new shed when it arrives so it will have to be moved elsewhere.

But are the blinds vertical? Its only vertical lines or blinds that work.

dont know what happened to the morning but it went and the nephews have been around this afternoon to play in our garden. Social distancing observed. My football team didn’t win but teams around did so that’s a bit disappointing.

Balance a bit worse today, had a funny episode with had this afternoon so going  to bed as soon as nephews disappear. Hence my early post.
