WOMBATTY
Wagons on Warren Lane KQA/KTA KTA at Southampton Maritime KQA on Warren Lane The basic Hattons weathering is very good but the inside is black and needs some work. We found a very easy way to get a nice look, paint everything Brown/Rust, then paint a container blue, and while still wet place in wagon and press against the side..It looks like the scapping on the prototype. That's beautifully done, as is the track and scenery around it- I had to look several times before realising it was a model.

bugs bunny
Wagons on Warren Lane part 2 The Dapol FEA spine wagon is the backbone of our fleet.........we have lots They are weathered in a similar way as the KQA FEA prototype at Southampton (notice the scrape marks from the floor of the containers) Dapol FEA on Warren Lane The scrape marks are made by painting the bottom of a Dapol container and while still wet placed on the wagon...... Its not perfect but it works......and if you over do it they look like Zebras

Preservation Modeller
Oh my! I saw this at Shenfield this year (I was in the room just down the hall with my layout Stepney Down) and I was VERY impressed with this layout! The working container crane, sound (If I remember rightly) and just so much detail, a magnificent piece of work you have done. My club members were also very impressed and have spoken often about this layout. Had I known you were on RMWeb I would have said hello personally! A smashing layout though, it really is! I dont know the history of the cranes at Southampton but Im sure some RMWeb reader will be able to help How was stripping the Heljan crane did you go wrong at any stage while rebuilding the crane? Pete Hi Pete I didnt strip it as such .........but rubbed it down with wet and dry, then painted it bright yellow after much mixing of paint I finally got the right dull colour I was after, and the weathering with red/brown has toned it down even further. I wouldn't like to do another one but If Warren Lane gets its extension I just might
bugs bunny
Wagons of Warren Lane part 3 Dapol Ika Megafret, They have had a bit of criticism in the model press but We like them They run beautifully because of the weight (all metal) and our crane drivers find them easy to load. They just need a good weathering to lose that bright blue look Ika Purfleet Ika Warren Lane Next up will be the Realtrack FLA when I can get my hands on some
MRDBLUE17
Hi Alan, Just came across this tonight for the first time and I think it is fantastic! And if I've read your thread right you got this all built in 7 months - thats some brillian work on your part to get it looking so good. I especially like your actual wagon reference shots and then your wagons - I really had to look twice on a couple they are that good! Please do keep posting more pictures as I would like to see more of your layout. Thanks, Mark
