kevpeo
And in a change to the advertised program, the latest 37 401, Martyn's, became - 37 401! He fancied it as a DRS modeller, so Rick kindly let him have the number, and his 401 will now become 413. Kev.
kevpeo
Well Loch Dour is all packed up and ready for its trip to Perth Green show next weekend, 17/18th March. Whats new since it was last out? 37 405 and 425 have been added to the fleet, plus the 'new' 37 401. Three more mk2's have also been added to the 80's fleet. The only addition to the 70's fleet is the 105 unit, plus a few new sound programs. Kev.
RMweb Gold roundhouse Posted March 11, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 11, 2018 Enjoy. One show that we would like to do one day.
MRDBLUE17
Hi Kev, 405 and 425, nice machines especially in DRS blue lol. Have a good time at the show All the best Mark
kevpeo
Ha, we dont talk about DRS's 37 405 Mark. Not after it left us stuck at Ravenglass for 2 1/2 hours last week. Good job the pub was open!! Kev.
kevpeo
First day down at Perth Green. All worked apart from a sticky signal! The 70's are now over, back to the 80's tomorrow with tractors. Kev.
Module00
I wish I could be there, but it's far France !
kevpeo
It would have been a bit of a trek for you to be sure Module, as for the weather! Good show though, and very friendly crowd. Loch Dour was obviously not impressed with being made to leave the house it would seem. A loose wire on Friday night, a sticky signal on Saturday and a Peco point blade giving way on Sunday! Luckly in the fiddle yard and soon 'bodged'. Other than those issues the stock all performed, apart from 'biggies' 40 032 and 47 461 which wouldn't go round corners! The spoon is fixed (snowplough's) but the 40 may just be too big! All is now set back up at home with the 80's fleet having a run out for a while. BigAndy
Shame about the bucket and the spoon Kev, but would the RA of both locos been suitable for that line? Or was it, I like them so I'm running them?! cheers Andy
kevpeo
West Highland cleared as far as Glen Douglas for the big stuff ISTR Andy (for the MOD?) . As my 'line' turns off right at that point, why not! lol. Kev.
kevpeo
Blimey, over a year since the last post! Thats because all has been quiet on this layout front, apart from the regular ''thrash'' sessions of course! But something stirs - 37 012 has arrived. To become 37 012! To be denamed, cos I already have 408, and with a few tweaks to the livery to suit 1986, it will keep its Bachmann/SWD sounds as it actually works well on the v5 decoder. The speaker will of course go, with a 'meatier' one taking its place. Kev. 2
kevpeo
And into traffic she goes - I'm glad I finally have a Bachmann/SWD 37 that actually drives nicely! We have had a few, and the original v3.5 was the previous best, each update lost something somehow. IMHO anyway! Kev. 9

kevpeo
Not a lot to report lately, as modelling has concentrated on other layouts and their stock! But a left over job came to mind lately. The point on the right is the one that failed at Perth Green show. This was bodged and lasted the show, and since, but sooner or later it is going to go for good! So, if I’ve got to buy a new point anyway, why not buy two and have a remodel! So the plan is this - The straight point on the right will go and a new curved point fitted to the upper left increasing the length of both the right hand roads. This works, but doesn't improve the sharp curve (18inch). So a better plan, but more work, is to swap the two left side points from opposite ends and reverse them, which will push the track outwards and improve the curve to 24 inch. The track is bought, but when am I going to find the time to start! Kev. 2
kevpeo
It never works out as planned does it! The relaying went ok, but with two problems. (1) The hoped for reduction in the tight, sub 18 inch radius curve improved to, wait for it - 18 inch! You can just see the improvement with the dirty outline of the old track. (2) The tie bar for the new curved point is right over the cross member. Of course it is! This means I will have to carve a TT300 sized hole in it! As you can see I haven't touched the outer two tracks yet, so I can still run half the trains for now. I will get the other end to this stage too before cutting into those roads. The gain for all this work, six foot in road one and two foot in road two. That is at least two more trains when in the seventies era! Kev. kevpeo
Right hand end done, bar re-fitting point motors & droppers! The track to the left is half the space gained. A few wiggles added but it should be ok. I estimated four lengths of track for the remodel. It looks like I only need two! The other end is not looking so finished - Kev.
kevpeo
With the track all laid, wired and tested I indulged in a little ''retail therapy'' on Boxing Day! ( As an aside, this was the first X-mas that I got time to operate LD on the day. It’s great when your kids grow up!) The train at the back is the new one, some nice Bachmann grain hoppers and a plywood brake van. The open could end up in any of the freights. All need some, or more weathering. The tamper has made appearances before and balances the number of trains. I also purchased a Jamie Goodman class 25 decoder to fit to the Bachmann 24/1 when it arrives, yes it will become a 25/0. kevpeo
Look what I picked up from Crafty Hobbies today - Only been ordered for six years or so! It's to get tops numbers in a what if/rule 1 scenario and will be a home loco/silly time engine. Now to pull it to bits for sound fitting. Are you going to give it the double arrows symbol in the style of some green class 27s?
kevpeo
I hadn't thought of that Max! She is running in around Loch Dour as we speak. The sound fit was easy, with a Zimo 55 x 22 x 9 optimised 3d speaker and in a first, Dapol have left lots of room. Well done them. Kev.
