Bury Fan here ...... I'll not lie it's been a tough few months :(, and this week has felt like a bereavement, I have the memories of going along to home and away games as 3 generations of supporters, we lost my Dad just over 4 years ago, but my Son and I still go when we could, making long distance away games a weekend treat away "he is the Royal Marines", but after a few years of mismanagement by 2 or 4 utter Crooked W#nkers in our club, our little footballing community has been crushed to dust.

I had 46 years support and 78 league grounds invested in watching our beloved Shakers ... but our plight is everything that is completely wrong with todays game, most clubs aren't community assets anymore, they are just play things or Ego trips for the "so called" narcissistic Wealthy to$$ers, who unfortunately leave leave behind a trail or destruction and debt once it all goes to rat sh#t.

The EFL are complicate in our doom also, as their inability to chase down our latest Crook of a Chairman was the final blow, the saying amonst our fans is Stewart Day killed us, Stave Dale put us in the coffin, and the EFL hammered the nails down on the lid, the damage to the fabric of the town of Bury will be hard, small businesses and pubs relied on the home games, especially if the away following was sizeable one.

We have the Boroughs MP's onboard, and we are making a legal case to try and prove the EFL did not follow their own rules in making the initial decision to expel us, and then refuting our appeal to rescind the decision, so we will keep fighting, if all else fails then it looks like an application to join further down the footballing pyramid for the 2020/2021 season.

What a load of twaddle.

Manchester United cannot afford to pay any player £500,000 a week, if their bankers/financiers/underwriters all called in their loans/contributions/overdrafts then they would go the same way as Bury.

Hopefully there will be a way back for Bury, one way or another.

The National League/s is/are like a rehabilitation ward for former league clubs.

My team spent five seasons there, having almost gone completely following the intervention of a couple of crooks, (who both had previous).

Football club 'owners' are really just temporary custodians, but unfortunately many do not realise that,

cheers

and so the saga of madness continues at Boundary Park much trumpeting today of our signing of a 23 yo none league player who has had ten clubs and managed a massive 7 first team appearances in that time of course being a relative of one of our club sponsors has nothing to do with it hopefully someone will come in soon and make the mad morrocan out before we become another Bury

Idiot owners are one thing, but clubs are implicit in seeking and paying excess transfer fees and  players and agents are implicit in seeking excess salaries and benefits. With all the stats available it should be quiet easy for a regulator to specify exactly how much a player is worth, or not worth in the case of far too many. Whatever issues there may be in setting up some funding of lower league clubs the glaring fact remains that 0.1% of the barking mad transfer fees agreed by premiership clubs on transfer deadline day would have, at the time, paid Burys debts.

read what i said normaly its is four up four down between leagues 1&2 .this season it will be four up as normal but only three down so evening the numbers up in all the divisions as stated by Debbie Jeavons chief exec of the EFL on radio five yesterday so strait from the horses mouth as they say

peanuts, please look at this again; If 4 are promoted from League 2, and only 3 relegated from League 1, and nothing else changes, League 2 will definitely be a team short ! However claude dreyfus has explained how this will be resolved.

Yes only 1 team will be relegated out of League 2 this season, our expulsion will cause the numbers to adjusted further down the pyramid ...

"... players and agents are implicit in seeking excess salaries and benefits ..." But the clubs are not compelled to pay them. IMO, owners are most to blame. They want trophies, either for financial rewards or for prestige, and are prepared to pay to get them. At the top, the money to pay these wages is available. Are players supposed to say to owners "It's OK, I'll play for half of that - you keep the rest for yourself."?

"With all the stats available it should be quiet easy for a regulator to specify exactly how much a player is worth, or not worth in the case of far too many." I'm not sure that there are appropriate stats for all types of player or positions. Strikers or goalkeepers - definitely. Defenders or playmakers - probably. But there are valuable players who do things that don't show up in numbers - who encourage team-mates, who direct other players verbally, especially in defence etc. I used to enjoy watching one English First Division (shows you how long ago that was) midfielder who regularly would shut down potential breaks from half the field away by his positioning and movement - if you were watching the ball, you just wouldn't see it.

While there are many problems with North American sports, I do like the "salary cap" that applies in several of them - here's the NHL's https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NHL_salary_cap . An NHL team can only spend a specific amount on wages each season, and that amount is based on the league's income in the previous season. There are (of course) many conditions, which can be manipulated - some teams have people whose job it is to do this - but the intention is that teams are on a roughly equal footing with regard to wages.

The other big difference is that most transfers are player(s) for player(s), not for money. While that's almost always been the way in the NHL, the salary cap almost forces it.

Early days blah blah but as far as I can see VAR is proving that three or however many iffy referees is a darn sight worse than one iffy referee....

Especially when matched with iffy VAR decisions... ;)

I know it only picks up one bit, but the answer to that is "no they don't"... But that is then the quickest way to get relegated...

It's not just owners that want success either, so do the fans, though with THEIR money invested i suppose the Owners' need is probably greater. But the fact remains the demand for success and so the vicious circle of spending and debt cannot be laid solely at the feet of the owners, the fans are equally responsible.

A great idea in theory, but as ever commercialism and money rear their ugly heads!

It's quite easy to maintain any sort of control over a purely home based sport, there aren't hundreds of worldwide leagues of baseball, American football etc, even their "world series" only encompasses North America.

Any sort of salary cap in the UK would only encourage players to go to another country to ply their trade, to the detriment of home standards.

Top of the league,..... we're going to enjoy it while we can....

Martin, we came down for the away fixture last February, had the weekend in Exeter, my lad was on a course at Limpstone.

it was a great weekend, and I have to say the Supporters Club was great, we was in there for a couple of hours before the game, it’s good to see the Grecians being a Club for the Fans again now, I remember your difficult times.

Good luck for this season

Craig
