"Model Railroad News" website (USA)

I was perusing my latest copy of MRN and noticed they were plugging their website as being "new and improved" in that they have realized that between their having a sample of a new release to review and the item actually appearing in the stores the new release was often sold out before the review came out (phew......). So the idea is to place a mini review online immediately and then their usual three page or so review (of major releases) would follow in the magazine in the usual way.

Have they achieved this yet? Not sure that they have......

Anyway here is the link:http://www.modelrailroadnews.com/

I can't remember whether MRN reaches the UK or not????

Best, Pete.

Jack, MRN is like the curate's egg, good in parts - is that a Trollope quote?

Some editions are good but the December 2010 wasn't so.

I still prefer RMC because it is based on the East Coast and tends to lean to local lines/local people to me - I wouldn't be surprised to find MR strictly online by 2013........it's always been Mid-West oriented anyway.

Best, Pete.

Thanks, Pete

I had a look at the link to http://www.sceniking.com/ whose 'new' products might offer me a change from the lovely Faller 'Obertsdorf' backscene which has graced at least four of my Swiss layouts......:)

Sceniking seem to produce them all on 'legal size' paper (8.5" by 14") which must make them a lot easier to stick on to the backboard and adapt to corners, although a fair amount of care would be needed. The FAQ at http://www.sceniking.com/ReadMeFAQ.htm is very comprehensive.

I wonder if everyone else has been doing it the 'simple way' all these years...and I'm the odd one out wallpapering a six-foot sheet to a piece of ply ?!!

Bob

Pete: it's a Punch cartoon. The caption is (roughly paraphrased)

Bishop's Wife: I'm afraid Mr. --- has got a bad egg."

The Curate: "Oh. no, I assure you madam, parts of it are excellent!"
