RMweb Gold 4630 Posted February 27, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 27, 2019 Colas 70805 approaching Heaton Lodge East Junction on 27th February with 6E32. At the moment this loco seems to be making a weekly trip on the Lindsey Oil Refinery - Preston Docks working. Judging from the audio on my video, either 70805 or the leading wagon needs a visit to the wheel lathe.

RMweb Gold TravisM Posted May 14, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 14, 2019 Heard a rumour earlier today that with Freightliner winning the Mendip traffic, they are planning to put all their Class 70’s back into service to the idea to use some of them instead of the Class 59’s, which apart from the DBC ones are probably in need of a heavy overhaul. In the same rumour, the MRL Class 59’s are going to be sold to GBRf but I take rumours like this with a pinch of salt unless someone else knows different.
Steadfast
Freightliner already own the 8 ex Mendip 59s so I can't see GB buying them Jo

Interesting rumour and I agree with your assessment about taking it with a pinch of salt. As I understand it GBRf hasn't really found a meaningful role for 59003 since they repatriated it from Germany a couple of years ago, so it would be difficult to see why GBRf would need any more class 59s, unless they're 'in the frame' for winning some suitable heavy haul contracts. As far as Freightliner is concerned, its been reported elsewhere that they've just lost the contract for moving iron ore from Immingham to Scunthorpe steel works (the contract is apparently returning to DBCargo who held it previously). That should free up a few heavy haul Freightliner 66/6 so I would guess it's more likely that they would be used in preference to resurrecting any of the class 70s from the line at Midland Road depot.

RMweb Premium Phil Mc Posted May 20, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 20, 2019 70804, seen at Doncaster last Friday. Had a nice little rake behind it, 2x Salmon loaded with concrete sleepers, 10x Coalfish loaded with ballast, 3x Coalfish loaded with sand, and 56090 on the back ! 70817 was also seen lurking near Roberts Road depot. RMweb Premium jamie92208 Posted June 19, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 19, 2019 I was recently back in the UK for a visit and caught 70817 heading north through Doncaster on what looked like an infrastructure train on the morning of Thursday 30th May. There was another Colas 70 parked in the engineers sidings north of the station at the start of the Cleethorpes Line. Jamie
montyburns56
Perhaps Colas should change their name to Black As Colas judging by the state of some of those 70s!
RMweb Premium jamie92208 Posted June 19, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 19, 2019 However Colas do tend to turn up in unlikely places. This was on the island of Mare in new Calaedonia in late April, I didn't see any 70's though. Jamie 4
