After a short spell of Colas class 56s on 6M32/6E32 Lindsey Oil Refinery/Colas Ribble Rail bitumen tanks, it was back to class 70s on 5th August 2020, with first of the class for Colas 70801 in charge.

A few photos from me of Colas Rail Class 70's in Aberdeen.

First off we have a couple of shots of 70806 passing through Bankhead on the northern outskirts of Aberdeen with the 04.37 Irvine Caledonian Paper to Aberdeen Waterloo tanker empties. Photos taken earlier on today.

After that we have a shot of an unidentified class 70 coming off the Bucksburn Viaduct on an Inverness to Waterloo/Craiginches working on 24/08/20. The flats to the left of the loco are built on the site of the former Bucksburn Station.

All photos taken on my phone I'm afraid folks, so sorry for the slightly dodgy quality.

A couple of photos of 70806 crossing the Bucksburn Viaduct with yesterday morning's Aberdeen Waterloo to Irvine Caledonian Paper tanker train. The tankers are loaded this time.

Does anyone know if Colas Rail locos lay-over in Aberdeen between trips?

Apologies again for the dodgy picture quality, and the lampposts and railings getting in the way.

I believe they do, usually at waterloo but I think they also occasionally run down to Craiginches. With the Tarmac cement trains as well as the regular traffic from the harbour, there's normally at least one 70 somewhere in Aberdeen, although the cement isn't running currently due to the derailment.

Thanks for the feedback, that would make sense. Will have to try and get some photos at some point.

A photo of 70801 passing through Bankhead on the north side of Aberdeen earlier this afternoon. The 04.37 Irvine Caledonian Paper to Aberdeen tanker empties again.

I thought I might be able to get a bit closer to the fence, but the vegetation's recovered pretty quickly since the area was cleared for access during the upgrade of the Aberdeen-Dyce line a couple of years ago.

Two for the price of one on 3rd September 2020 as Colas 70816 and 805 cross the Pennines working light engines as 0D02, 10.32 Crewe Basford Hall SSM to Doncaster CHS, passing through Deighton.

A couple of photos of an unidentified Colas Rail class 70 heading through Bucksburn on it's way out of Aberdeen this afternoon. The service is the 13.02 Aberdeen Craiginches to Oxwellmains cement tanker empties.

The low-rise industrial buildings to the left of the train were part of the former Twinspires Creamery. This closed around 20 years ago, having opened in the 1950's, and was served by milk tanker trains up until the late 1960's.

Apologies, a bit of a dull afternoon weather-wise.

After a weeks absence of the bitumen tank trains to Colas Ribble Rail at Preston, due I understand to maintenance at Total's plant, 6M32/6E32 resumed on 5th October 2020.

Colas 70817 passes through Brighouse with 6E32, 10.05 Colas Ribble Rail to Lindsey Oil Refinery discharged tanks.

About as easy a load as it gets for a class 70 - Freightliner 70017 heads along the Huddersfield line at Colne Bridge on 7th October 2020 with a wagon transfer from Hunslet Yard to Crewe Basford Hall.

I've just realised it's a year ago this month that I learned 70s and I've still not driven one in anger, I doubt I ever will now without having a refresher on them first. A pal at Lawley Street was passed out on 90s last week and on his first booked job with a 90 on a pair of 86s turned up.... good 'ere isn't it...? :biggrin_mini2:

A couple of snatched photos of an unidentified Colas Rail class 70 on the 13.02 Aberdeen Craiginches to Oxwellmains cement tankers earlier today. Bucksburn in Aberdeen. The train was a few minutes early, so I didn't have time to get to the location I'd planned. Colas Rail colours do quite a good job of camoflaging the loco amongst all the autumn leaves.

According to a TOPS list the camouflaged Colas 70 working the above today was 70814.

Colas 70816 has been working 6M32/6E32 Lindsey Oil Refinery - Colas Ribble Rail bitumen tanks this week.

Here she is on 4th November 2020 with 6E32 easing around the curve at Hall Royd Junction, Todmorden to join the Calder Valley line.
