Where were they hiding at Hartlepool? Can't believe I missed them!

Hi Graeme. Bachmann had about 3 glass fronted display cases in the main hall near the coffee shop seats. I walked past them a few times before I saw them when I was looking down from the balcony.

All three of the first release are now shown on their site.

Original of 38-350 here http://paulbartlett....64b28#h3fd64b28

Original of 38-351 at http://paulbartlett....64b28#h3b8f931d

I cannot read the number of 352.

Would I be right in thinking that there was only one wagon repainted in Railfreight Metals colours? (based on the comment of the photo).

Was thinking of getting two of the four packs of 38-351 and 38-352 from Hattons.

Managed to collect from my postbox!

With regard to the height issue - the buffers are at the correct height. This pic does show the "tip-toe" nature of the wagon. http://ukrailwaypics...2842_LhvGj-A-LB

Pics of 38-351 and 38-352. Nice touch with differing handbrake wheels, buffers and ends. The cradles are removable - they are located by tiny pips on the bottom of the cradle that engage with the slots on the cooling grids of the floor. I don't know if they would stay fixed with a rough shunt! The coils are also supplied loose. A small dab of superglue or even blu-tak would secure them. (Both wagons have 5 cradles - I only put 3 in place on the railfreight one.

They are also supplied with stanchions so that they can be modelled without cradles as BAA. Cradle fitted are BZA, although both wagons carry BAA TOPS codes. Loads of excellent BAA (and BZA) pics via Martyn Read's smugmug site via the link above.

I'll probably be altering mine with the larger stanchions to carry slabs as per the above prototype pic. Or source a pair of Thrall bogies from a HTA http://ukrailwaypics.smugmug.com/UKRailRollingstock/B-tops-codes/BAA-bogie-steel-flats/16266182_hLZfwj#1266810089_Vd23M29-A-LB

NO, I have posted links to the prototype photos, these are early 1990s wagons. The emails winged backwards and forwards on the lettering for these wagons - not that Bachmann will acknowledge the help in any way.

Looking good, cant wait. Hope Dapols BBAs are as good.

I was looking forward to the BachFar version for N gauge, however wasn't aware Dapol were going to make such a model

However, I remember seeing more BBA wagons at Carlisle during the late 1980s

Hi Mick, bit more on the ones with the heavy stantions - I visited Newport in late 2006 and none of them had these then.

I visited in again in Summer 2007 and the Margam-Llanwern slabs had become solid sets of BAA's all fitted with those stantions - shiny and new.

More recently they seem to have wandered a lot more and the BAA/BBA fleets have mixed back up again - but just be wary of modelling a "right now" BAA from a photo shot pre-2007 (like that shot of 900113) as it may well have had those added since - most (not all) now seem to have them.

Sorry to repost this but does anyone know whether there were many in RF metals or was it just the one?

Thanks Paul.

Just received some good pics of the RF metals 900205 (as per Bachy model), I think from 2003. Hoping to get permission to post them on here. It clearly shows the "Z" as a later modification. It also looks like it's carrying one odd buffer........

This looks like a good "modelling" project to get them right and weathered appropriately!

Cheers,

Mick

Only the one in the livery that Bachmann has chosen as shown in Paul's excellent collection --> http://paulbartlett.zenfolio.com/baa/h3b8f931d#h3b8f931d

Others just received yellow ends (which I think Rail Express commented on in their review of the model). Examples, again from Paul's site, are:

Permission granted - thanks to Steve Moore.

Showing 900205 in typical workday grime at Blackburn. Complete with the older style electrification flashes that Bachmann have done. The pictures clearly show one odd buffer

post-408-0-81512600-1319757602_thumb.jpg

and the "Z" as a later addition. The TOPS panel looks hand painted.

Got mine yesterday well happy with them, going to change the yellow/black R/F metals one to red ends thou and re-number it never saw it in action so not keeping it yellow if anything it will make the rake of BAA's look weird with a yellow one in there!

I've also removed all the cradles and gona have my wagons eye to the sky with maybe genesis coils for extra weight two and not forgetting that thin white line that went down each side of these wagons on the body edges at the top think it was cardiff which had them like this but i'll have to check 1st and see which had this white dotted line?

A quick question for the more knowledgeable steel trains people out there,

Im thinking of getting a couple of the railfreight red BAA's for my layout, but would these have ever ran in consist with BDA's or SSA wagons or were they generally found in just BAA rakes. I might have to buy a full rake if its the latter.

cheers Neil

There were block trains just using this type- the Lackenby- Corby 'Tubeliner' is the one that comes immediately to mind- but they were (and are) to be seen in mixed formations with other steel carrying vehicles. These might include the sliding-hood coil modelled by Dapol, the BRA/BYA from Bachmann, BDAs of various styles, scrap-carrying opens etc. There might well also be vehicles which might not at first appear to be appropriate, such as air-braked vans (carrying tinplate, for example).
