Beresford Junction
And two new arrivals at the depot (56103 and 60006) pass by the soon to be painted factory units... All I have to do now is fathom out how to change the DCC number of the new class 56 loco as I now have two set to 03 - worst case I might even read the manual.
Beresford Junction
I've just had my first DCC crash - set the both off on the same track then started doing something else - I found what that big red S T O P button is for now. Has anyone noticed that I seem to have an ever increasing number of class 56 locos? I've even applied to join the Class 56 group - www.class56group.co.uk
Beresford Junction
At last, work has started to fence those sheep in, with the fence posts now installed: however some 'bright spark' decided to use this as the wire, and guess what - it's invisible!
Beresford Junction
And I've also started on some ballasting - nothing stuck down yet as I've now realised that I need to put the platforms (not yet built) in place first then ballast up to them. Still, I think it's quite effective. And oh, there are those Class 56's again (plus the 60 British Steel).

Beresford Junction
Last night I started building the platforms from a Metcalfe kit, so that it matches the station building, however when I checked (which of course I should have realised before), that because I had raised the track up on cork, I'll have to raise the platforms by a similar amount for them to fit right. Seems like one step forward and two back at the moment. I'm also not sure about using the platform kit as it only comes in short sections so there will be a lot of joins. Beresford Junction
Tonight's job was to fit a side retaining wall (re-enforced with a cat food box) to the embankment - here's the before and after: I've also started to lay some more cork for the station platform to sit on to raise it up to the right level, which you can see in some of the shots.
Wrighty
Hi, Been watching this layout for a while now, thought it was time to comment on it. Great selection of locos and rolling stock. Beresford Junction
All I've managed to do tonight is stick a corner onto the retaining wall and glue some cork down - some days you make big leaps and others you just potter along - still it's going in the right direction. Today I bought some arc lights to get some extra light down there - the kind used by builders - with 2 x 400w very bright bulbs - not sure it improved the pics, but certainly helps warm things up. Oh and I took some more pics of the 56's:
Rammy
Good to see you making steady progress. Better to take a few little steps every day than to try and cram everything in to a few hours like I end up doing. Your ballasting is looking very neat. Good job you realised about the height problem though! I must admit your invisible wire made me chuckle! Keep up with the updates. I know what you mean about posting into the ether. I get that feeling too sometimes, but then realise that I tend to read most posts but not necessarily comment on them. It is good to receive occasional comments though as I find they give you a boost. By the way, have you got any 56's? lol Dave
Beresford Junction
Hi Dave Thanks, and you're right steady does it. I've looked back at what has changed even in the last month and am pleased, and of course if I ever did 'finish', what would I do then? I've been following your exploits at Chadwood and enjoying your humour too. Cheers Phil
Beresford Junction
Just in case my collection of locomotives wasn't eclectic enough, I've just ordered a Bachman class 70 PowerHaul in Freightliner green (70006), which has just come in to eHattons. Of course I'll now have to also get a load of inter-modals and HHA hoppers ;-)
Beresford Junction
The new class 70 has arrived and looks very nice but since it's for my birthday, I'll have to wait a couple of weeks for it. I've however just had a big delivery of track and points from my track supplier Pete, who also kindly included a dog to keep the sheep under control. I let it out of the box and it was off to round them up... Not much else has been going on down on the layout as been busy with work, and then off to Basingstoke show at the weekend for a look around. However here are a couple of shots from a different angle. Cheers, and thanks for looking Phil

Beresford Junction
A new passenger arrival at the junction - a SWT 159 arrives through the tunnel. and pulls into the (still to be finished) station as the sun sinks into the west. before coming to a halt for the passengers to dis-embark.
Beresford Junction
Another arrival at the Junction to join the EWS fleet 67022, although hang on I think there is a slight size problem. I'm afraid I just couldn't resist it, and decided to start a little shelf layout in 2mm - like I've not got enough on my plate already ;-)
Wrighty
Great work Phil, keep it up. I thought there was something wrong with my PC monitor when I saw that class 67 pic! Chris
Beresford Junction
A bit of progress this week - generally sticking down cork, painting it my standard light gray undercoat and building a platform ready for sticking down and completing the joints I've also been thinking about what next.... These shots puts what I've shown to date in context with what else I have to do. Still no definite plans, but the area is 10ft x 4ft and the only requirement is that it needs to have two through lines, which will join up with the current work in progress. Current ideas are a ) a couple of mini scenes from the following list, each of which can be built / run in isolation - a TMD, - a through station - a shunting yard - a container crane with lorries b ) one massive shunting yard c ) stop messing about and finish what I'm doing before starting this As you can see, I have mainly modern freight wagons although I seem to be building a collection of BR / intercity coaches along with my 158 and 159, oh and I have some RES coaches and have my eye on a RES 47, so perhaps I should add a Mail depot to the list of options. Any suggestions?
Arpleymodeller
Looks very promising, looking forward to seeing the scenery work develop B) Regards Lewsis
Beresford Junction
More arrivals - 70006 Freightliner has turned up with some containers, although what it's doing in the station is beyond me. The containers where a nice little purchase from Alton Model Centre - if you've never been, you should - it's an Aladin's cave. Don't worry though, I've not been messing about all the time - I've aligned and trimmed / adjusted the platform ready for gluing down and am going to make the ramp so people can access from the car park. I also picked up some Metcalfe cobbles and paving stones while at Alton Model Centre, and some track cutters so now I have no excuse to not get on with the final laying, painting, ballasting... Oh and here's a little video of the new 70006. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rCzk2TBWo6o
Wrighty
Hi Phil, Very jealous, the class 70 looks stunning! Hopefully I will get one soon. I love container wagons, I can't get enough of them. Keep up the good work, as for the suggestions to what option you should go with, I think you should go with option A, that way you get a little bit of everything to keep your mind occupied. Cheers Chris
Beresford Junction
Hi Chris Don't get me wrong, it is growing on me, but I'm not sure I'd call the 70 'stunning' ;-) It's not got it's chip in yet, so was having to rattle round on the DC line tonight. Now, back to the platform ramp.......OK just one more video first - enjoy Cheers Phil http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oaSLxjzO2v4
Wrighty
I know what you mean, it took a while for it to grow on me too. Cracking videos, keep them coming!
Beresford Junction
And just to prove I did something tonight, here's the newly built ramp: And some more with accessories to spruce it up All I now need to do is build the other platform, then secure all the pieces together and finish off.
