Having already purchased the Class 20, I thought it was about time a tried out Digitrains class 37 Zimo sound chip.

Well it was worth waiting for... once again great functions, and great sound even on video.

Here's a snippet of a video, let your ears be the judge!

does sound nice, hopefully you will be able to get a "thrash" video at some point?

is the brake release sound automatic or on a function button, it sounds like it happens 3 times as the loco begins to move off?

i do like the brake squeal sound happening a couple of times though, once as it slows to a crawl and again as it stops.

be interesting to compare it to the new lok-sound V4 when that comes out

Jim,

Its me I am trigger happy, regarding the brakes release, it does have it automatically before switchable - or it use it manually on F4.

The brakes are also controlled manually, it is a dream to drive and control.

12 functions all with individual volume control, thrash yes it does, but I am still learning the manual [50 odd pages of A4].

Your DCC controller needs to be able to program and read up to CV501, not alot can? [although you can get round this by piggy backing CV's, if thats the right term to use]

It seems to me that each chip needs to be tweaked once you have your loco on your layout.

Massive learning curve with Zimo.

I will say that SWD Bachmann and Howes 37's are all great sounding sound chips, but not a patch on the functions or controlability of this 37.

Yes this does sound like a 37/0 but does it sound better?........Its different, it also makes all the other 3 sound thin and tinny.

Although this is set up with a bog standard 1" speaker, it does sound alot deeper than all my other 37's - even those with a bass reflex and 2nd speaker on the chassis.

Its abit like the class 20 I have of theirs, it actually sounds real.

Lets hope Brian re does the Class 37 and class 20 on a Loksound v4, as they have to be re done to the newer v4 chip?

I thought that Howes class 20 was miles a head of everybody elses, until I got the Zimo Digitrains 20, now this one makes the Howes sound very thin and tinny.
