Pufferman
This is a great layout, just found it. What did you do the floor around the track by your Bachmann engine shed?
Dan Griffin
filler, mixed quite wet and applied with a plasticard trowel and plenty of water for making the surface smooth, the rail centres are thick balsa wood painted the same colour as the filler, it was sanded smooth when dry with fine wet/dry then painted. after cleaning the rails it was touched up with paint. its a lightweight filler and is very durable and in my opinion looks the part. ill post you some more pictures of it tomorro. Pufferman
Ok thanks, would wouldnt be able to give me some measurements from the shed? The length and the width and each door opening. thinking about getting one but my track is already laid for the measurements of a PECO shed
Dan Griffin
spent a hour linesiding today, whilst testing my evening star (see seperate post!! ) 47535 passes on a paddington to Exeter service. followed by a HST heading for penzance 47317 passes with two empty vans heading for the royal mail terminal. a suprise in the form of the NRM's M7 tank number 51 with support coach heading for a weekend charter booking. D400 passes with a postal service. 37156 on the clay hoods heads for the yard. 50004 passes with a failed HST set, to be terminated at the next station. pufferman ill do the measurments for you tomorro, and post you them on here, cheers, dan
Pufferman
Ok thanx. Whos is the support coach?
Dan Griffin
its been a while, so a quick update, first off, the support coach is a Bachmann NRM limited edition from a few years ago. second, ive added a new 40 to the roster, 40145. a resprayed Bachmann D368 model, the headcodes are detailed below. more updates on the layout some time this week. 40145, the headcodes were made by scanning the Bachmann originals, along with Heljan class 14/15/33 and western ones onto a computer, and using nothing more than paint, cutting and pasting over the scanned originals to make lots of different headcodes. print out at 40% size and wella!! home made cheap headcodes. i afixed them to the Bachmann orignals using douvle sided tape, so in time i will change headcodes, i also made some dominos. if anyone is interested in them ill attach the file for you to download. let me know. the camera flash has made the 0000 look lighter than it actually is. normal viewing its totally fine and no white shows. all three repainted Bachmann 40's, left to right, 40106, 40125 and 40145. all four 40's , 40075 being the only one in original Bachmann condition. a close up of the headcode at the 0000 end. Im looking into lowering this loco on its bogies. from this angle the gap seems huge, more so than on 106/075 and 125 the 0E93 end, personally i think they look good. opinions please. tmore updates soon. cheers. ian b
The 40s look good mate, excellent repainting job. Just noticed the shot of D400- is that one of your repaints too? Its looks absolutely spot on, even down to the 'chubby' numbers!
Dan Griffin
D400 was an ebay bargain. being sold as a good repaint, which it certainly is, but it was described as a non runner from RAILS, i got it for a snatch under 30 quid, and upon investigation into its lack of interest in running, i found a home made (badly) dcc blanking plate, i removed this, and fitted a Bachmann 36-553 and off she went, excellent runner and a genuine bargain. RMweb Gold Colin_McLeod Posted June 27, 2012 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 27, 2012 Hi Dan. I've just stumbled across this thread and am moved to say that I really enjoyed reading it and drooling over the pictures. It's a great looking layout and it has just given me the kick I was needing to get the finger out and get on with my own layout. Looking forward to following this one. Cheers Colin

Dan Griffin
a few shots from the running session today. i am doing some work on the platform areas, so will add pics of that when its done. the driver of 0Z73, rings the signalman about being stopped at a red. 73204 was heading for the west yard. 31111, 20217 and 44008 stand on the fueling point. 37428 stands on the fuel delivery point, awaiting its turn of duty. just to indicate on my ex-INTERCITY map where abouts roughly id think my layout is. **edit**in hindsight, considering ive a dock!, the layout would be based between weston super mare and bristol. the classic vehicle restorers have a new toy, a large scale diesel hydraulic LNER A1 'flying scotsman'. similar to the ones that run on the scarborough bay railway. in reality an N gauge flying scotsman that was mounted on a plinth. it has no inner workings and it cost £1. bargain! 40145 passes with a household coal train. 08464 shunts the dock sidings, the breakvan is needed for propelling the trip freight across themain running lines.# the tail end, for today at least. more pics later, cheers. Dan Griffin
a few more pics from today. 20217 and 20063 on a passenger train, the stock is a mixture, a single Bachmann mk2, a Bachmann mk1 buffet car, and the rest are old Tri-ang Hornby mk2's, that have been running on variouse family layouts for nearly four decades!! certainly got our moneys worth! and they are all still in quiet good condition. the station area, still under development. the bus garage, sits on the edge of the baseboard, somewhere to park my small collection of buses. ive hung up two 00 scale-ish, spitfires that are dogfighting a messerschmitt thats getting shot down, not to everyones taste, maybe not, but i like it. the messerschmitt going down, the smoke is cotton wool glued around a piece of wire that was stuck to the wing. the second spitfire, they were gentle swaying, hence the blur with the time exposure. next are some general views of the layout. ill upload a track plan if anyones interested. the station area, with bus depot and town area. 4th and 3rd radius curves were used on the layout. the station area, with fuel point next to the station, a spotters heaven! the scenic section, all trees were hand made. 20063 and 20217 arrive in the yard to collect the coal train on the right. the headshunt in the yard is not long enough for two class 20's. trains for choppers have to be shunt released and trains shunted too them. the 20's on the move. 44008 has taken over the passenver workings. another bargain this loco, from the DPS stand. 03179 stand on the fuel point with its match wagon. 40145 and 40125 rest on the fuel point. 08464 shunts VGA vans in the yard. the modified Hornby dublo signal box, repainted and detail controls shunting in the yard. more updates soon, hope you like. cheers, dan.
