I can remember seeing the World's Largest Model Railway at Beaulieu in the early 1960's, the only train I running on it amongst the dozens running was a Hornby Dublo Castle with three coaches, the coaches had been fitted with lights.

I can also recall the 0 gauge layout at Brighton in the very early 1970's with Sammy the Shunter, there were no Children in the group so they did not do any of Sammy's tricks, which included trying to hit Sammy with a newspaper, the tricks performed probably accounted for the lack of scenery, though there were other layouts there (not running) none of them had any scenery.
