That area had a lot of aviation connections, quite apart from purely operational military sites, and if you haven't come across it, there is a good little museum in Southampton, staffed, in the main, by volunteers - Solent Sky. I don't know what archives they have, but if you and Kelly are in the area it might be worth a look.
