RMweb Premium coronach Posted June 6, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted June 6, 2020 Now the track is relaid on the southern approach to Whinburgh, I can continue with the moorland scenery . Vallejo textured earth Paint is great as a base, followed by many layers of scenic scatter attached with diluted PVA. The trick will be develop the scenery so that the two parallel sets of running lines remain distinctly separate in the minds eye 15

RMweb Premium 61656 Posted June 6, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 6, 2020 That looks fantastic. What method do you use for ballasting? You’ve certainly created the feel of a long open mainline.

RMweb Premium coronach Posted June 7, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted June 7, 2020 I had a go at making a tree or three today, starting with a pre-made wire frame. I used Vallejo textured paint to create the bark and then added foliage.
millerhillboy
difficult to totally see but that textured paint looks like it creates lovely rough bark like surfaces

It is thick enough to create lumps and bumps in the bark. I then touch it up with coloured acrylics to emphasise the natural aspect of the bark and then add foliage

RMweb Premium coronach Posted June 13, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted June 13, 2020 Today’s project - improving the PaliToy Mainline Mk1 buffet restaurant car, which in its day was streets ahead of the other Mk 1 models then available. I remember seeing one in the window of The model shop that was on Knaresborough station in 1984. I bought this one second hand from a junk shop in Micklegate, York in 1990 Thirty year later I will finish it !! 3

The sides are from Comet - £10:50 a pair. The hinges are bridal lacing pins soldered in to drilled holes and filed to size & shape. Likewise the grab handles are brass wire. The sides are attached to the existing vehicle using Evostick, having first cut away all protruding mouldings and the window apertures. I attach some photos of a RBK that I completed today - as you can see, I complete the side, including windows, curtains and HMRS lining & lettering before I attach the side to the shell. In the words of @Tony Wright, these are ‘layout coaches’, which add variety and are satisfactory when in a rake. The Coaches with Comet brass sides are a good match to Bachmann Mk1 coaches Edited June 21, 2020 by coronach Photo of frosted window added
