Hope your signalmen are fit... those steps look awfully steep....

All best for Christmas, and let's hope for a 2021 better than 2020....

They are borders men. Porridge for breakfast - Mutton and neeps for dinner.

The signalman has been disturbed from his paper and is ‘pegging’ line clear to Whitrope SB for the next down train. The dishcloth is drying in the window after the washing up.

Just need a roof on to keep him dry :)

Complete. I hope it fits !  The original signal box was a temporary version constructed using my model of Lambley SB as a basis - from the previous layout Lambley and Alston. I will need to construct a privy for the signalman.

I will need to adjust the fencing and think about whether the signalman is expected to use the ‘facilities’ at the station

I’ve also installed ‘Brandy’ the shire horse patiently waiting with his dray.

St Margaret’s ‘borrowed’ it for a run to Carlisle and back

I’ve started work on upgrading a ‘bargain’ Bachmann Crab using the Brassmasters upgrade pack, starting with the tender. This will keep me busy for a bit. FB also reminded me of a photo from three years ago when I first ran the D30.

I’ve ordered replacement LMS buffers for the loco - although the Brassmasters instructions suggest the existing buffers can be removed and fitted to a replacement buffer beam, they won’t shift.  I will need to be patient until they arrive in the post so I can complete the loco next weekend

Crab 42783 is being prepared for service. A Bachmann LMS bargain from Rails of Sheffield with added parts from the Brassmasters detailing kit, a full repaint and heavy weathering - someone will get into trouble about allowing the smoke box to get so rusty - Needs a crew before it is given a run. Someone has cleaned the grime off the cab side number.

These locos certainly have a muscular look about them. I have a film somewhere of one on a freight on the Waverley Route having to stop at Steele Road for a blow up.

Well the crab runs well - lacked a little adhesion on the climb so assistance from the J36 was needed as far as Whitrope summit. The wagon bearings need lubricating, which should help. There is not much free space in the boiler for added weight.  All in all, I am very pleased with the engine - it is just trundling round light engine atm to give it a running in

However here are a couple of shots of a classic 1960 border country branch line train comprising an Ivatt 2MT plus Mk1 BCK - as small a steam hauled train as you can get including two classes of travel. Probably more train crew than passengers !

edit - just noticed the station masters house gate has fallen off its hinges - also there are no loco lamps
