I noticed this thread has not been started under Products so....

Just a quick post to say my Coach Pack arrived today & looks Sound. I cannot see any problem re: size of Compass logos as other people have mentioned. If no-one beats me to it tomorrow I will post some pictures of the coach pack attached to my Bachmann DRS 57.

Very tempted to buy a pair - then remove the brake end corridor and replace with an inspection window as per this pic of

9419

(Then contemplate scratchbuilding a KUA sub nuke wagon.........)

Cheers,

Mick

thinking of doing the same with mine, the windows are actually class 56 windscreens (might be ueful to know for when you do it)

both ends are the same btw, not just the brake end

i started to make a suport coach then these got announced so i stopped, it is dead easy to do, simply pop out the gangway and "plate over" with a plasticard panel, i cheated with the window by simply making a frame out of plastistrip and painted the window area black!

I had been wondering about making the changes but since the loss of Fotopic I haven't managed to find any decent shots of the coaches to guide me. Does anyone have any that could be posted or wouldn't mind emailing to me?

- Sorry - Just noticed the link above with a good shot but could still do with any more out there!

[in an Alan Partridge style] Ahaaaaaa!

Thanks for that Jim - oh, how I miss fotopic............ Although they are supposedly out and about again, so hoping that pics may find their way onto flickr etc.....

Cheers,

Mick

they were on gresty bridge earlier in the week, i'll see if i can get some pics of them if they are still there

Don't know how I missed the blanked corridors at both ends.

This pic also of 9419 clearly shows it.

Hope you get the pics.

Cheers,

Mick

the real coaches are out and about today, not sure if they are headed back to crewe though, my "man on the ground" is going to let me know tomorrow,

may have a possibility of an etch being produced for the plated ends if i can get enough info but the problem is, as pointed out by the etch guy, is anyone else prepared to hack up/dismantle their ltd ed to make it a viable proposition to produce in any great number, although it could be sold as a separate etch for anyone wanting to make the coaches themselves from an existing Bachmann coach.

I have some pictures of both coaches taken at the Kingmoor open day in 2009 if anyone is interested.

They should be downloadable from the public folder in this location

Thanks for those Pete!

No problem Mick.

I dont know if you noticed, but on Escort 9 pic you can see a certain Extreme Etcher measuring up the windows of a Class 37 for the replacement windows etch and glazing. Those coaches are really glossy!!!

Thanks for the pics Pete. I am now newly inspired to start playing around with the models!

I've seen 'OO' trainspotters before but don't think I've ever seen anyone model a person measuring up for a model so perhaps that could be a first!

im off to get some pics and dimensions for the plated end panels and window grilles next week as the coaches are now back in crewe and ive been given the ok to do so.

as i asked above, but now i can get some accurate measurements, would anyone be interested in having the panels available as an etch to replace your gangways, i've been speaking to pete harvey about it, whether it would be worth him producing as an aftermarket kit, the main worry is whether people would be willing to dismantle a £60 pair of coaches, although it would also be a handy kit for those who want to convert a standard coach?

as i said i started to make a support coach before these were announced so stopped the conversion when they were, i did remove the gangways on a standard Bachmann coach and plasticarded over the hole so i'd hope an etch would be a similar idea, it certainly didnt involve any cutting of the shells at all, although they were flush to the ends, the real things are very very slightly recessed but not hugely noticable from viewing distance

Had a closer look at these last night in the pub with Brian Hanson, Shawplan/Extreme Etchings.

He already has an etched window frame surround for the class 56 and could easily knock out some Lazerglase.

The rest should be easy, including the window grill and some bogie steps.

Will you be willing to share the dimensions of the door end arrangement and window grill with us all when you get them?

Can you also look into the bogie steps

Pete

I for one would be more willing to start hacking things about if there was a professionally produced solution so I'll be keen to hear whatever solutions come about! I think it is great that everyone is so willing to share their expertise, photos and contacts/opportunities to put something together!

the good thing is i dont think there would be much "hacking" to be done, if i get a chance i'll photograph the Bachmann coach i dismantled to show what i needed to remove, basically the gangway and concertena doors for the ends.

not sure about e extra grilles, would be nie if an etch could be done to simply fix over the existing printed one

bryan has asked me to get the measurements for the steps too, if you look at photos of the real thing the steps dont actually line up with the doors though!

I ordered the DRS coach pack and the Vitrains class 47 Craftsman on Monday and both were delivered on Wednesday. :)

The 47 is a bargain at £50. Hope fully the nuclear flask wagons will arrive soon.

Here are a couple of pictures I took this morning.

All it needs now is the buckeye rubbing plate - from the original corridor connection and job done.

Cheers,

Mick
