Fab! Shame about the overscale driver ;)

Notice you're from Whitby - is the Ruswarp Miniature Railway still going? Used to go there every year when I was younger and got to know the original owner quite well, at the end of the day he would let me drive the locos to the shed B)

I'm not sure, never been myself, but the last time I was past all looked tidy and looked after and all the signs are still up.

Re the Ruswarp miniature railway, the locomotives Danny and Emily were recently purchased by the managing director of the group running the North Bay Railway at Scarborough, with a view to complete refurbishment/overhaul. As I understand, the Ruswarp line will be gaining, or has already gained some new locomotives and will continue to operate as normal. (heard on the railway grapevine...nothing official)

For the 6+ years that I worked for a certain school nearby I used to drive past the railway in all weathers and thought that it was nice. I think that there were the odd weekday running sessions that I got to have a look at - couldn't stop too long as I was supposed to be working!

Looks a great day was had despite the rain.

I must admit I could see echoes of Magritte in seeing the guy go round with the umbrella.

He was one of the few that kept running through the torrential downpour.

Another film from today - much better weather.

I went on Sunday morning, my first visit to Gilling, and was very impressed with what I saw. It really gave the impression of being a real railway, if you see what I mean. Also I liked the fact that most of the models were actual scale models - the detail on some of the wagons for example was of the highest quality, and that rake of 13(?) BR Mk1's looked wonderful, and this is before I started looking at the locos! My only criticism - wot No A3's or A4's!!!! My favourite locos that I saw - the Merchant Navy, A Brit and also a Midland Single - reminded me of the early days at Butterley, when they used to steam the NRM's loco - perhaps the most graceful loco you would ever see running (or perhaps gliding is a better term!).

All in all an excellent way to spend the morning - my Mum and Dad were very impressed - though I think it must have reminded them of taking 5 year old Suddaby train spotting. :D
