Interesting mix, I would have expected far more IM Immingham aclass 20's and less 37's. Was it different around 1978 when I guess I must have made most of my visits?

Hi Tony,

Am more or less positive that No. 20 was on display at the depot,to back this up I remember seeing a picture either in a magazine or somewhere on this esteemed site of the loco on display.

I wonder if I did see 1508,or was it a slip of the pen...

Quite often due to a shortage of Peaks on a summer saturday we would be treated to a pair of rats also a midland DMU set Birmingham to Weston super Mare was always running.

28th July, 1984. 25279+325 work the 0730 Euston- Aberystwyth, the legendary "Abers", in their last summer of booked type 2 haulage, seen here at Shrewsbury.post-5674-0-19701900-1532785716.jpgpost-5674-0-95869200-1532785724.jpg

About 30min later, the pair are seen leaving Welshpool. This scene is now completely changed, with the signal gone, bridge rebuilt and line slewed to the right, and a bypass running through where the train is.post-5674-0-91576500-1532785733_thumb.jpg

Later the same day, 31135, unique with it's yellow end extended around the cab side windows, was stabled in Nuneaton station, at 2030.

I wonder what the Black 5 & rather leaky Class 4 2-6-0 were doing on the Paddington to Birkenhead?

Surely it would be a diesel by that time?

Cheers

Keith

EDIT

Delving deeper I found that after it became LMR territory the locos were anything from class 47, to Black 5 and anything else that would run!

August 3 1963. We were on our way by car from the west of Scotland for a family holiday in Lyme Regis. We’d stayed overnight at an uncle’s in Gloucester. Before we set off again in the morning, I had about an hour beside the Cheltenham to Gloucester line.

2884 class – 3844
Castle - 7014
Stanier Mogul – 42981
Stanier 5 – 44776
Jubilee – 45647/45653/45712

Then, later on the journey:
Wanstrow:

Ivatt 2MT tank – 41206

Lyme Regis:
Ivatt 2MT tank – 41307

Since I’d never been spotting south of Ayr before, these were all “cops”.

More gadding about in August - sorry he didn't make it to Ireland. The Scottish photo was taken at Arbroath. Between 29th July and 26th August 1952 we were on holiday in Monifieth. Including the journeys fom Ripon and back Dad filled 54 pages of his spotting logbook. With upto 24 lines / entries per page that is approaching 1300 recorded loco sightings. Obviously some are seen more than once during the holiday and he did visit several sheds, but there are whole pages of Monifieth, Dundee, Perth and Edinburgh.

38 years ago today, I spent a couple of hours near Ashford station. SWMBO used to go shopping while I parked the car as close as possible to the line (the car park was next to the cattle market) and just watched trains go by. The refurbishment programme on the 411s were just beginning and so there are a few renumbered ones, which in those early days carried the full 6-figure unit number on the cab fronts.
