'CHARD
Has this photo been on here previously? https://www.flickr.com/photos/96859208@N07/10577434915/ Deltic D9012 has been diverted from the ECML and is seen leaving Carlisle Citadel on a Kings Cross to Edinburgh service on the 16th of July 1967. [Edit] Records have this as the 1400 Kings Cross - Edinburgh Oh, that is delightful - I can taste the anticipation of turning left towards Canal, then the delicious prospect of seeing all those alien running-in boards flashing by on the Class 1 bellow up to Edinburgh. 'CHARD
Some nice Bristols too Oh yes, that Longtown outstation has long been an object of desire. Classic Binns mini-rear ads too.
'CHARD
Torwoodlee, long-view. I'm adding it here, as it's a perspective not previously seen (at least by me) of the former line in use. https://www.railscot.co.uk/imageenlarge/imagecomplete.php?id=58518 Check the New Images thread for another great local capture! The Torwoodlee three-arch is about as perfect as Waverley Route perfection gets. Lovely photo. Being a Lancashire lad I love Crabs as well (the loco type, that is) and did once look at the Binbrook one as a restoration project - a bit too far gone plus ridiculous politics, sadly. RMweb Premium Blobrick Posted September 1, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 1, 2018 I hope Chard, does not object to me sort of Hijacking his thread? As this is a thread for seeking the rare and unusual photos etc of the Waverly route, l have a subject to add to the list. I am trying to find information on the loops at Falahill Summit. I have a few photos l have found in Roger Siviter "Waverley : Portrait of a famous route" which show the south west end of the loops and associated sidings. However information/photos/plans for the north east end of the layout has eluded my searching for the last 10 years. The "Old Plans" web site has copies of the 1907 1:2500 OS maps but they are too early, showing the weighing station and track work before the loops were added, so l m not sure what became loop and what remained after the loops were finished. Can anyone help please? Bob C
26power
Not quite covered by NLS on-line mapping for 1944-67 1:1,250/1:2,500: https://maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/#zoom=13&lat=55.8033&lon=-2.9642&layers=170&b=1 Almost as though the railway deliberately avoided in places! Seriously, the addition of this mapping might help with other locations though. I hope Chard, does not object to me sort of Hijacking his thread? 'CHARD
No problem using this thread for research purposes, after all that's the principal aim of the group. I've been on Old Maps for a look https://www.old-maps.co.uk/#/Map/340500/653500/12/100954 but again, the railway was seemingly very shy between 1908 and 1968.... Thanks for the Link Chard, its the very map, l had mentioned earlier, as you say its a bit light on the old detail, I ll just have to keep searching, l know its out there some where!! 62440
Recently the Railway Magazine ran an article on 'Circus Trains' visiting parts of the UK. Although I can remember Big Tops in Hawick, I don't know how the circus came to the Borders. I have a very vague memory of watching a parade of the animals, but have no recollection of them being led down from the station. What I do recall is being taken by grandparents by car during the 1951 Foot and Mouth outbreak to just beyond Teviothead on the A7 to see the circus animals in a field: quarantine restrictions prevented the circus moving on. That would perhaps indicate that the circus came by road to Hawick. I have asked around about a Waverley Route Circus Train, but not had a conclusive answer. Bruce. 62440
May I add another most wanted? A photo of NCB loco 10269 passing light engine through Hawick (en route for Fife) at 3.53pm on 21 August 1967. And there I was thinking that the ex-GWR tank locos sent to Dornoch were real rarities! Bruce It's incredible! I'd like to open this request up to identifying what 10269 actually was/ is? I'm presuming this was a diesel shunter, but so far I've drawn a blank - there must be a website somewhere that specialises in the NCB fleet.... I understand that Chipperfields Circus parade in September 1958 started at Hawick station.
