Tim Horn
I've been developing the office building for Phil over the past few weeks, mainly getting my head around the drawing and laser cutting of it. These photos show the progress to date. This is the test build, so I can take some measurements to create the slate roof, and to test fit all the sides. All looking good I think so far Cheers Tim

Tim Horn
I've spent Saturday putting together the revised version of the "office" for Phil's layout. I also took the time to spray up one of the test chimneys, which has come out quite well All good progress so far! Cheers Tim

Tim Horn
I've got the main brick colour on now, just need to get the mortar colour right and then tidy up the bricks again. I've also completed a gate kit for Phil to make at the back of the scenic board Cheers Tim
Tim Horn
The office was given to Phil to plant yesterday, and what a great job he has done on the next two boards. The aim over the last few months has been to not have any bare baseboards when we take it out to it's first exhibiiton in September. The finer details come much later. All looking very nice though so far, nice work Phil Cheers Tim
Tim Horn
With four months left before Phil's Calcutta Sidings v2 hits the exhibition road, we had a final test session last Bank Holiday weekend. All went well and we are very pleased with the end product A few photos to show the progress made so far . . . . roll on ExpoEm North 14th & 15th September! Guest oldlugger
Nice work Tim. Where do you keep such a huge layout? All the best Simon
Tim Horn
Thanks Simon, Phil owns the scenic half of the layout, and I own the grey storage yard half. Mine sits packed up behind me in the office shed, whilst Phil's is in his house packed away until we go out with it Cheers Tim

TEAMYAKIMA
Hello Tim As someone building a largish layout ( a 26ft x 10ft HO layout in a 12ft x 8ft room! ) may I ask how wide your FY baseboards are - and am I correct that there are 19 roads and a DCC test track? What is your longest train length ? Kind regards Paul
Tim Horn
Hello Tim As someone building a largish layout ( a 26ft x 10ft HO layout in a 12ft x 8ft room! ) may I ask how wide your FY baseboards are - and am I correct that there are 19 roads and a DCC test track? What is your longest train length ? Kind regards Paul Hi Paul, I’m sorry I haven’t seen your questions up to now. Its 18 tracks with 36 independent roads with a test DCC/programming track on 3foot 3inch wide boards. At the moment Phil's longest train is around 17 feet, but I've got capacity for up to 25 feet in the longest yard at the moment. With over 36 roads available, I thought I'd better number them so that we can easily identify them on the laptop panel we use to set the routes. With the first exhibition next weekend at ExpoEM North, this is a much needed bonus so that the operating crew can call out a road number to the laptop operator. Good luck with the build Paul. Icknieldrobin
Tim or Phil Only just caught up with this topic...........all I can say is the wow!!! Can you tell me what rail fixings you have used on the flat bottomed wooden sleeper lines as that looks very realistic. Although many of the mainlines in the 60's had these fixings it seems to be rarely modelled in 4mm scale. I'd certainly like to have a section on my layout of this type. I have some C & L & some Peco Pandrol rail fixings but neither look as good as you have laid down. Thanks in advance Doug

Tim Horn
Phil's debut ExpoEM North has come and gone, and we had a very good time. I know that everyone enjoyed themselves, and a great team effort by everyone helping. It was a testing time for the layout too, but overall, it behaved itself very well. The only noticeable problem was an overheating Digitrax box on the Saturday afternoon on the Storage Yard, which was solved by Mike T and Phil adding another booster inline to lower the constant power consumption from a single source.Overall I'm very pleased with the performance, still some room for improvement in both reliability (a couple of points and the odd errant piece of stock) and operating, but we gave a solid performance, with up to 5 large trains moving at once out the front Plenty of detailing scenery wise is called for now, as the layout is at its most basic at the moment.Roll on ExpoEM in May 2014, and Scaleforum in September 2014 CheersTim

Grimleygrid
Superb photos Tim, thanks for sharing them. That really is an impressive layout, I look forward to seeing it in the flesh hopefully next year. Lovely stock too!
37038
Hehe - I'm in two of those pictures! I'd been reading about this layout on here and that was one of the main reasons for coming to the show, even though I'm a mostly 3mm finescale modeller. And it didn't disappoint! The mixture of well-modelled track, superb details and realistic traction and rolling stock made it one of the most interesting and impressive layouts I have seen for a long time - well done!
