I saw that, but brass H pieces would make a large layout expensive. I suppose if you are running power to the overhead wires, then you would need stronger support, but I reckon if it's unpowered catenary then you could use plastic for the beams and even that thin plastic stuff that you can get cheap from China on E-Bay for the wire itself. It would also reduce the noise from the pick ups touching the wire. A lot easier to build I would guess too!

I saw a layout at Glasgow show some years ago that had used plastic for the catenary masts. The kindest comment I can give was that it didn't look good.......
