A North-West Engineman Remembers

Recommended Posts

The article by Fred Jackson in the latest issue of Steam Days may appeal to many. Fred Jackson joinerd hte LMS in 1945 at the age of 14. He started as a bar boy at his home shed of Hellifield. After a break for National Service he rejoined the railway at Preston where he became a fireman and later a passed fireman. He tells many interesting stories about his working life and, as one might expect, there is a great deal of background information about how the railway ran in the 1950s. Worth a look, I think.
