UPDATE

At last I have done the base boards.

The blue underlay is a foam underlay for laminate floor I got from a shutting down sale from Focus.

I have attached this to the boards with spray Craft Mount Glue by 3M from a craft shop, and marked out 1ft sq's on the top with a felt tip pen to help mark the track plan.

Hi All

UPDATE

I have been busy today putting my track plan down onto the boards using C&L Templates.

I put the single slip on first and worked from that, by putting down a centre line with a felt tip pen and I used that line when putting the templates down with spray mount glue. I will use the C&L Template for positioning the sleepers into place, I will be putting the point work on first which I will be making on my work bench, then I will put the sleepers down for the rest of the track work on the board.

Hi Ray,

Good to see that you are making progress. My only observation so far - the road in front of the fiddle yard / cassettes looks a little close and may be difficult to provide the scenic break. Could this be curved away a little?

Hi Richard

Thanks for your input . I am thinking of changing that point to a right hand one so I could lower the the head shunt as you say it is close to the fiddle yard.

I must say I was pondering about that for some time.

Thanks for your input.

Hi All

I have changed the head shunt to give more room for the cassettes in the fiddle yard,

I have dyed the ply sleepers with Colron wood dye (jacobean dark oak) and put a small bit of Humbrol no 191 Silver Met to give the sleepers that look of silverery look of old oak. I have layed some sleepers down to see what they look like

post-3746-0-11860500-1310808831_thumb.jpg

I have curved the entry in the fiddle yard to help wth the extra room for the cassettes and put in a left hand point in to turn the head shunt to also give more room.

The dyed sleepers the pic doe's not show the full colour, you cannot see the grayish colour on the sleepers.

Nice trackwork Granddad. Timber sleepers veres copperclads? We will have to wait and see. I see you used foam instead of cork. And you bought some, I have some spare you could have had for Yarde.

Are you getting new stock for this layout? I see you have an 08, Or are you using some of your Southern stock as well?

Am I mistaken but is there a point on a baseboard joint?

Hi PhilJ W

No you are not mistaken there is a point on a board joint , I have done this before and had no problems as long as you put the middle of the point over the board joint and good enlinement dowals you should not have problems, and wire through as normal.

UPDATE

I have been busy building my six points and I have started the single slip, I have put some photo's on at state of play with the single slip, and I have been busy putting the magnets in before laying the sleepers down onto the C&L Templates with double sided tape. The points are not stuck down as yet as I have to put the tie bars on and drill out the hole for the point motors and I have put in the droppers, I am thinking of yousing servo's with MERG decoders for DCC operation with NCE system.

I have also done some ballasting before putting the rail and chairs down, I thought it would be better to do it this way, but not at the points as they need the tiebars before glueing down and ballasting.

The photo's show the state of play to date.

Hi Simon

Thank you for your comment on the track work Simon, I am in the middle of building the single slip which is the last one to do then it on the rest of track work which is going to be built in situ.

The loops are for point operation wich are going to be servo's with piano wire coming up through the board into the loop and I will put a piece of cardboard over that and ballast on top to hide the loop.

update

I have been busy laying the track down

I have cut the track into scale 60ft lengths thread the chairs onto the rail then glued that down onto the sleepers and the other rail I did the same but used track gauges and glue it down.

I have just received the servo's to operate the points as you can see they are very small

As you can see the servo's are 20mm long the electronics will be by MERG.

The gaps in the ballast work in waiting for when I put the serco's in place and I am going to put a peice of cardboard over and ballasted on top
